The Englewood Angels

Donation protected

On Nov 06, 2016 an anonymous call was made for help regarding children left alone.  Three girls, my grandchildren Destiny (age 7), Derricka (2), and Errika(1)--were discovered inside of an abondoned house all alone.  The house had no electricity, no heat, and was in a very uninhabitable state.  EMS was summoned and the girls were transported to the hospital for evaluation.

With Destiny's help, I was able to be notified and I immediately responded to the hospital. Through the help of DCFS, and my request the girls were able to be placed with me. Although very willing to take the girls, I was not properly prepared. In stepped my Angels.

On their own initiative, they began dropping off items at the house including food, diapers, clothes, furniture, and food store gift cards.  The 007th District Community Policing Office set aside winter coats for the girls during their Annual Coat Give Away when they learned that I had no means of transportation to get to the event.

When my angels discovered that Derricka and Errika shared a birthday on November 13th, they showed up at the house for an impromptu birthday party with balloons, cake, ice cream, and presents.  It was then I told them that I lost my job due to having to be home to care for the girls and currently have no source of income.

Due to the large volume of paperwork and legal steps that must be taken to award protective custody of the girls, financial relief in the form of government assistance is not expected to be available until after January, 2017.

My Angels have not wavered in their commitment to help. The needs of this newly-formed family unit are many.  Destiny, although 7 years old, has never attended school.  She will need clothes and school supplies. Going forward we will need a larger apartment, along with the daily needs of food and clothing.

Please help me help the girls during this holiday season, in providing a warm, stable environment in which to raise 3 young girls.  As you can see the girls have already come a long way from when they were found (the first 3 pictures below) to where they are now, but it will take a lot more help to get them where they need to go. A caring group of angels initially established this Go Fund Me page as a means of showing their commitment to help me and the girls. I continue it in their name. Thank you for anything you can do to help. To all who wonder, my Angels have not come from the sky but wear blue.
