The Benhaffaf Boys

JUST A FEW MOMENTS OF YOUR TIME FOR SOMETHING THAT COULD MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE TO TWO AMAZING CORK BOYS

Many of you will know of the situation with the specially adapted van that Angie Red has for her beloved miracle boys Hassan and Hussein. The van is the ‘Gateway to the World’ for the boys for school, hospital appointment, sports and so much more. However the nine year old van has given up and the cost of repairing the van is more than its worth so it’s unviable to do it. As of now the boys have no transport to get them to school and elsewhere and that is just not something I can sit by and watch happen.

As Chairman of Cork Civic Trust and a friend of the family and a person who feels we should help, I have agreed with Angie that Cork Civic Trust will source a new van for the family. In spite of a 5 month waiting list for such a van, we have located one right here in Cork at TW Abernethy in Midleton and it is available and we have ordered it today.

The cost of the new Ford Transit Custom van is €41,886 plus €2,152 to adapt it with a ramp for the boys wheelchairs. We can reclaim €17,000 in VAT and VRT as the boys have a primary medical certificate which allows this. Ford Ireland are giving us €2,500 and TW Abernethy are also giving us €2,500. We have also received some smaller donations.

This means that we have a shortfall of €19,250 and tomorrow we will launch a GoFundMe page and also take donations at the Cork Civic Trust office (see graphic below)

While the required amount of €19,250 is a lot of money, it is a small price to provide this ‘Gateway to the World’ for these amazing Cork boys and from tomorrow I will be asking everyone I know to see if they can help us in any way and with any amount of a donation as everything will help regardless of the amount.

Cork Civic Trust is putting a longer term plan in place with The Benhaffaf Foundation, that will provide for the boys needs on an annual basis. The trips to Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital every year, the flights, the accommodation and so much more as well as much needed physiotherapy that the boys need that is not covered by state support. Unfortunately charitable organisations take much longer to establish these days and it will be September before this is in place.

This is an urgent and very necessary fundraising initiative and I would be extremely grateful to anyone that can assist us. I am very grateful for the support so far and anyone who knows Angie and her family knows how good she is to others and especially to the organisations that provide life saving services to her boys. It is now time that we helped these amazing boys.

Thank you,
