The Dress Locker
Donation protected
I recently started a small non-profit business helping young ladies attend that special dance. Starting December 2016 I began collecting formal dresses from my daughter's friends and people in our local communities. I would then let any young lady come borrow a dress and shoes for a small cleaning fee of $20. I had no idea how fast this would take off! Soon our spare room was filled with dresses, overtaking the room. We had to move the dresses to our garage. As word spread, we found ourselves out growing the garage and looking for a space to rent in our local town of Lincoln California. This was a hard decision because I would be paying the rent out of my own pocket. A local business owner and his wife graciously offered us a space at reduced rate. I can't express how thankful I am for their generosity. We decided to name the store the Dress Locker and moved into our space.
The support from our community has been wonderful! I am looking for some help in paying the rent, clean the donated dresses, buy more dresses and shoes. When dresses are donated, we need to send some of them to the cleaners. We have spent over $600 cleaning dresses that were donated. I currently have over twenty more sitting at the dry cleaner reay to be picked up.
I realize the Dress Locker can not survive on donations alone, My goal is to eventually sell some formal accessories and rent dresses for weddings and other formal events but always keeping the $20 rental fee for all high school students.I am not one to ask for help, let alone money but we have gotten to the point where we need a little help to keep this going. My husband and I both work full time and we are not looking to quit our jobs or make money we just want to help our community without putting too much stress on us finanically.
Our goal is to provide an opportunity for every young lady to attend and enjoy their formal events without the financial worries. Anything you can donate will be very appreciated and help to keep providing this service to our community.
