The Finnegan Family-Mia's Surgery
Donation protected
In 2013, Liz and Bob were thrilled to learn they were having another child! After a difficult pregnancy Mia was born and spent two months in the NICU where she suffered a stroke and had bleeding on the brain that later resulted in celebral palsy. Daily, Mia has physical therapy but despite her tremendous effort, does not have the use of her legs and connot run around with her brothers or other kids her age. The stiffness and spasticity in her legs is caused by the celebral palsy. Liz did extensive research and found a successful surgery called SDR done by St. Louis Hosptial in Missouri. The surgery-Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy, better know as SDR is a complex surgery where surgeons divide some of the sensory nerve fibers that come from the muscles and enter the spinal cord. A neosurgeon divides these fibers into 3-5 rootlets and takes out the ones that cause spasicity. The hope is that Mia will regain use of her legs and someday be able to walk. After a rigorous selection process Mia was chosen for the surgery and her family is thrilled. The surgery will take place in February in St. Louis. Needless to say there will be many costs that insurance will not cover including months of post therapy. If you know the Finnegan family, you love them. Liz has been so active in the schools, running fundraisers and never hestitating to lend a helping hand. Bobby has been a Yonkers firefighter for the past 13 years, risking his life to save others. This time they need our help. Please donate what you can, and help give the Finnegans one less thing to worry about. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
