My name is Jonathan Conrad, many people know me as The Catholic Woodworker, and I’m on a mission to inspire men to live out their vocation as husbands and fathers through the holy rosary and consecration to our Blessed Mother Mary. I created this campaign to help fund the development of an all-new website that will be dedicated to helping men pray the rosary daily.
Why do I need money for a new website? Is it really that expensive?
- If enough men were praying the rosary we wouldn't need this site, but that isn't the reality. With so much noise out there, it's so important to have a crystal clear message, specific calls to action, and the support needed to hold men accountable. When someone buys a rosary from us today, there's no way for us to follow-up. There's no exploration of why they purchased it, how long they've been praying, and 3 months from now it's possible that rosary is lost in the bottom of a drawer along with all the other failed attempts at establishing a daily prayer routine. We want to help. This will be a major project that will take the better part of a year. Jacob and team at 86 Creative have been helping Catholic businesses and ministries bring their stories and mission to life on the web for years, and no one does it better. Those Catholic Men and their Exodus90 program are the perfect example of the fruits of their work.
Even if you do get this website built, how will it help men pray more?
- Every product The Catholic Woodworker sells today was the fruit of my own faith journey and prayer struggles. There is an art to this type of product development. The mobile prayer kit, for example. It fits in a suitcase, perfect for men to take with them on business trips, setup in their hotel room, and draw them to prayer, protecting them from temptations on the road. We'll put the creative genious of 86 Creative to work developing content, marketing print, and other resources to articulate the value and potential spiritual beneifts of put this powerful prayer kit to work in their life. We plan to do this for the various rosary options we offer as well as the prayer journals.
So your solution to Men not praying is marketing? Isn't that for businesses? Do we really need to market the rosary?
- We live in a consumerist society. We are constantly looking for the next big thing, the newest technology, the latest convenience. Have you noticed that the more we buy, the more we want? We want the rosary to be different, it NEEDS to be different. You probably already know the power of the rosary otherwise you wouldn't be reading this, but if you think back to your experience with the rosary, it's unlikely you just picked it up one day, starting praying it perfectly, and haven't missed a day since. Right? It's tough, and for most of us it takes YEARS. Getting men to buy a rosary is hard work, but that's just the beginning. I have learned so much over the last 4 years in my struggle to pray the rosary daily. I don't want the rosary to end up in a drawer like it did for me at various stages in my journey. It is a tool, that requires training and practice. This is where this website will really come to life. Think about buying a rosary as a journey. It doesn't end when the package shows up, and is held for the first time. If anything, that's when the journey starts. it's about what happens next.
So what WILL happen next?
- This is where the most significant investment will be, and this will take the most time. Beginning in October, I will be launching 2 new expoloration initiatives to help discover practical ways to hold men accountable and draw them into a deeper appreciation for the rosary.
Number one is a local Rosary Group. A small group of men will begin meeting weekly to discuss the mysteries of the rosary. Using scripture and several excellent books, we'll dive into a different mystery each month. In addition, we'll pair up and help each other be accountable to praying the rosary daily. Not just praying though, really meditating on the mysteries.
Number two is a research project. I will begin interviewing men all over the country and asking them 1 question: Tell me about your experience with the rosary? I know my own experience, but most people don't talk about it. Even if someone does pray the rosary, it's something that's generally done quietly and the journey they took to get there is a mystery, sometimes even to them. My own journey was somewhat of a mystery as well until I consciously went back to various journals, facebook posts, and other clues to put together a cohesive story. I want to capture the turning points & milestones, as well as the setbacks along that journey to the daily rosary. These research findings will be key to uncovering the secrets to helping men pray this power prayer daily.
Do you really think this is going to work?
- The rosary works, it is the solution to every man's problems. The real problem is they don't know that, and they won't until they start praying it themselves. All I know is I've been praying the rosary daily for almost 3 years now and it's changed my life. After reading Fr. Calloway's book, Champions of the Rosary, two things became clear to me: We are at war and it's time to fight. This is how Our Lady has called me to join the battle. Will you join me?
This new website, the content, the graphics work, marketing print, shopping experience, email campaigns for the post-sale journey will cost upwards of $20,000. I'm only asking for your help getting the project started. That number is $4,500.
