A Bulgarian team of the best hip hop dancers from Bulgaria, created to represent the country in Las Vegas - Hip Hop International World Finals.
The selection of the team was made through a casting during the dance program “Dance It” organised by Iliev Dance Foundation.The concept for the team was created by Pacho & Zdravko - the best hip hop dance formation for 2016 awarded by the 359 Hip Hop Awards.
The idea for the Bulgarian participation is to create a piece where Bulgarian folklore dance and hip hop are joined in one, so at the end we have a style never seen before on the dance stage. The choreography will be created by Pacho & Zdravko and Petar Iliev - worldwide known choreographer with a great success who works in the field of Bulgarian folklore dance.
The team has the name ‘The Buls’ which comes from the international sports abbreviation for Bulgaria - BUL. We want to represent the culture of our country for the world in a very contemporary way by mixing hip hop dance with our own heritage. The first step for that is the World Championship in Las Vegas this year. The Buls already have an invitation for it sent by the organisers of the event.
The organisation Hip Hop International was established in LA, USA in 2002. Every year they organise some the biggest and most prestigious competitions for street dance, which are either a live show or a TV production. The idea for the organisation was born in 2000 when the creators Howard and Karen Schwarz see how some street dancers in both Paris and Tokyo make the crowds fall in love with them and crazy about them with their incredible dance moves. At the end of the day dance is an art, which knows no language. It is suitable for any person, no matter where they come from or what language they speak. So from the start Howard and Karen are looking for an opportunity to reach as big crowd as possible. And they achieve that.This year The Buls will be competing with teams from 50 different countries for the 1st place in the competition. That is of course if we get that chance to represent our country, for which we need your help.
After this year's "Dance It" and one week of dancing with all of the participants the chosen ones are: Aleksandra Kovacheva, Dimitar Lefterov and Iveta Bineva.Together with Pacho & Zdravko they are The Buls and will represent Bulgaria at the Hip Hop International, Las Vegas.
DANCE IT spring intensive is the program which we collaborated in order to choose the dancers for the Bulgarian team for the World Championship. This is a spring program, held every year, which teaches dance in different styles - balley, hip hop, contemporary, jazz, folklore dance. The classes are thought by guest choreographers from the USA and the best Bulgarian choreographers. The idea for the program is for young dancers to learn new techniques and become better throughout the program. All of the dancers have the chance to rehears for a final production for the end of the program. It is a big show held for a diverse audience.
ALEKSANDRA KOVACHEVA, 22Since she was 6 years old she has always been part of the dance world. In the beginning of her dance education she started with ballroom dance. Two years later she decides to start taking modern dance classes. After a few years of practice and gaining technique and skills she becomes part of the VS DANCE team. There she developed her hip hop skills and has been part of many local projects: X FACTOR, FANTA DANCE FESTIVAL, THE VOICE OF SUMMER TOUR 2014 & 2015, DON’T TWERK, VOGUE!, SOFIA FASHION WEEK, THE PRODUCTIONS VS LIFE 2 & 3, BMW FEDERATION DANCE TEAM. She has participated in many music videos: VESI BONEVA, KAMORATA, MARINA KISKINOVA, LEXUS, DIM4OU and many more. Also Aleksandra and her team win an award for the best hip hop team for 2014. Since 2016 she is a teacher in VS DANCE. Right now she is focused on making herself a batter dancer and takes part in as many dance workshops as she can with both local and international teachers. Some of them are: YANIS MARSHAL, KK HARRIS, J.K. SANCHEZ, VALENTINO VLADIMIROV and many more.
DIMITAR LEFTEROV, 22
He has been in the dance world for the past 6 years. He also makes music. Dimitar started his dance education in STREET DANCE SCHOOL THE CENTER. There he took part of Viktor Milushev’s classes, where he learns basic techniques in hip hop and how to dance choreography with a team - synchronised. He also wanted to do freestyle dance. So Dimitar started going to many hip hop competitions and that is how he exchanged knowledge with some of the best freestyle dancers in Bulgaria and Europe. Some of those competitions are: UNDERGROUND DANCE BATTLE, STREET DANCE BATTLE PLOVDIV, GRAND MALL BATTLE, STREET MASTERS BATTLE and many more. This year he reached the semi-final in ISTANBUL INTERNATIONAL STREET DANCE BATTLE where many participants from all over the world took part. Dimitar dances in quite a few TV productions, TV advertisements and music videos: X FACTOR, TRAP SHOP COMMERCIAL, YOUNG BB YOUNG FT. KRISKO, MUSICAL ACADEMY. For the past few months he has been part of the VS DANCE team, both as a dancer and a teacher.
IVETA BINEVA, 21Ives started her dance career in dance centre GALAXICO in Dimitrovgrad. There she was a competitior in national and world dance championships for more than 10 years. She participated in the categories ‘SHOW DANCE’ and ‘MODERN DANCE’. She has many awards: 8TH PLACE IDO EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP DANCE SHOW 2009 - BELGRADE, 1ST PLACE FIDS WORLD CUP 2010 - TORINO, 7TH PLACE IDO WORLD CUP SHOW DANCE - ZAGREB, 3RD PLACE IDO CHAMPIONSHIP 2011 - NOVI SAD, 2ND PLACE FIDS WORLD DANCE GAMES 2011 - SOFIA and many more. She won a scholarship from the Bulgarian Ministry of Education for her talents in dance. She also has been finalist in the competition of foundation ‘DIMITAR BERBATOV’ in the field of arts. Right now she is part of the team of Pacho & Zdravko in STUDIO DANCE ZONE in Sofia and participates in TV productions and music videos.
CHOREOGRAPHY AND CONCEPTPlamen Andreev - Pacho, 26
Pacho is a main influencer on the Bulgarian hip-hip scene. He has inspired many people to believe in dance. He walks on the unlaced paths in the name of success and development. He has been a dancer and choreographer in many music videos, TV shows, tours and club shows
He was part of one of the most prestigious dance camp - URBAN DANCE CAMP in Germany, where he danced parted of the choreographies of Justin Timberlake, Usher, Janet Jackson and many more. In 2008 Pacho and Dem Idols win the 7th place in the World Hip Hop Dance Championship, which is the greatest ever success for a Bulgarian hip hop team.
Zdravko Kostadinov, 27
He is a professional dancer, with many years of experience being his back. He is full of innovative ideas. Zdravko choreographs and is part of many music videos, TV shows, tours, live concerts. He has taken part in workshops led by the choreographers of Usher, Michael Jackson, Justin Timerblake, Janet Jackson, Madonna. In 2013 Zdravko won a scholarship from Iliev Dance Art Foundation and he went to LA for a month. There he was dancing with and learning from some of the choreographers of the biggest music stars right now.
PACHO & ZDRAVKOThey started working together at the end of 2014 on a collaborative project - Trap Show, which is currently going on and it is made for the clubbing scene in Bulgaria. Later - in 2016, they win a prize for The best hip hop dance formation by 359 Hip Hop Awards. They made an online dance show with dance lesson - Moonwalk, together with Facing the sun. right now they are hosts of another series - Dance culture on 359TV.
IN ORDER TO GET THE PERFECT MIX BETWEEN HIP HOP AND BULGARIAN FOLKLORE THE TEAM WILL USE THE HELP OF:Petar Iliev (Pacific North West Ballet)
Petar Iliev has come from many generations of dancers. He is a very talented dancer and teacher. Very original and far from the ordinary, he produces modern dance with unique Bulgarian tradition kept in it. In his art he always incorporates his knowledge of the original Bulgarian villages, which bring the traditions to the best american and worldwide renewed dance institutions. How driven Peter is about mixing modern with tradition can be seen in his own productions, where talented dancers are in front of the amazing opportunity to perform in choreographies which are the perfect symbiosis between classical ballet, modern dance and Bulgarian tradition - very specific, but amazingly beautiful.
THE MUSICThe music will be created by DJ DIAMONDZ - one of the most talented composers in the hip hop world in Bulgaria. He was the one behind the most successful songs of 100 Kila and Ndow. Right now DJ DIAMONDZ is working in London with D Double E. To make the music a perfect mixture between hip hop beets and tradions, he will work with some of the most prestigious Bulgarian musicians, who play on traditional for the country instruments. Together they will create something that will be unique both on its own and with the choreography of Pacho & Zdravko.
COSTUMESThe costumes for the competition are a modern interpretation of the traditional folklore clothes.
BULGARIAN DANCE LANGUAGEHelp us to achieve this DREAM of ‘OURS’! We put ours in quotes, because we know that it is not only us - the team. It is many Bulgarian hearts. All of us hope that the traditions and culture we have can be translated worldwide! Hip Hop International is the first step in order to do that. And The Buls can be the champions, because Bulgaria is different, powerful and most of all - INSPIRING!
We will make a print on the inside back of every shirt for the competition where the names of all the people who have donates and helped the team will be written. Because we are all ONE and will be on stage together!Благодарим ви!
