The D.A.R. Project
Tax deductible
Hello, my name is Erin Ku and I've decided to take action in starting The D.A.R. (Domestic Abuse Resistance) Project. In my efforts to act upon domestic violence and sex trafficking, I've partnered with Ruby's Place in Hayward, CA to raise money for women and children who have experienced this. The term "dar" also translates to "to give" in Spanish, which is my main mission with this project.
Ruby's Place is a safe place that provides shelter and support for domestically abused and/or sex trafficked women and their children.
20 people are being domestically abused per minute, 1 in 3 being female.
The children of these women are incredibly affected as well. 3-4 million children between the ages of 3-17 are exposed to domestic abuse, which can lead to mental instability and further issues. In addition, about 2 million children are forced into the world of sex trafficking, 96% being female.
Here in the city of San Ramon, CA, specifically my school, Dougherty Valley High School, we are extremely privileged in terms of the education we receive. The children at Ruby's Place deserve the same opportunity to become disciplined, determined, and intelligent students like the ones at DVHS.
Your donation will go to the women at Ruby's Place to pay for food, cleaning products, personal care items (such as shampoo, conditioner, lotion), etc., including BART and bus tickets for these women to go to job interviews.
In addition, I will be doing a can food drive by distributing bags for people to collect cans in. I will also be hosting events related to the sport that I love, lacrosse, such as Battle of the Sexes or play days in recognition of The DAR Project, so stay tuned.
