The Scars Project

Donation protected
I've always believed in a more passionate world, a kinder world where people would help those in need if they were in a position to do so.

My name is Whitney Develle and in February this year I created 'The Scars Project'. I offered to tattoo 1 free tattoo a week until the end of the year to help those who had suffered at the hands of domestic violence, trauma, severe surgeries, self harm and more. I wanted to create an awareness for mental health in an already judgmental world. I wanted to bring light back into the lives of the survivors and make them feel as beautiful on the outside as they already were on the inside. The response I received was incredible with over 1000 emails in the first few weeks. Due to the large response and the limited free sittings I wanted to do more, help more, so I decided to further discount my normal day rate for all of those remaining that wanted this to be a new chapter in their life. From their I created my own Facebook business page www.facebook.com/whitneydevelletattoos with an album specifically for the before and after transformations where these incredible people share with the world their journey of what led them to have their scarring. More importantly though they share their advice, they let others know that they are not alone and that you are able to break free from that gripping darkness if only you seek help and believe in yourself. Kind, generous persons also began calling to make donations, I personally could not accept the money myself so I created this gofundme which will be running until the end of the year to which 100% of proceeds will be going to Beyond Blue www.beyondblue.com.au, an organisation that deals head on with mental health, that will be able to aid those in need before they are led to self harm.

So far it has been an emotional roller coaster, the people that I meet each week are amazing beyond words and I can't express how much it means to me to be able to give them artwork that draws the eye and masks the scars. I have dedicated so much time to The Scars Project that it is now apart of my heart and soul. I encourage more people to help others, no one has ever become poor by giving. It is the most rewarding feeling in the world seeing that you have brought joy into the life of another.

I have set the amount to $1000 as it will be running until the end of the year.
Whether I can raise $100 or $1000 I will be extremely gratful to those who have chosen to take a stand for people who are struggling with mental health.
