Think Pacific: Volunteering in Fiji

Donation protected
Hello! My name is Molly and I am currently a first-year Law student at the University of Lincoln.

On the 16th June 2018, I will be stepping foot onto my 23-hour flight to Fiji to partake in a month-long volunteering project with Think Pacific – a charity dedicated to helping impoverished Fijian communities. Think Pacific is a registered charity in Fiji (charity number FJ989) and Wales (1162190), supporting over 20,000 children since 2009.

Why Fiji? Beyond the lavish resorts and mesmerising beaches, were you aware that 75% of Fijian children live below the poverty line? With only 50% of children having access to fresh water and adequate sanitation? With my help, and your donations, I will travel out there to benefit their education by helping them with basic numeracy and literacy. Whilst also, encouraging and teaching them extracurricular sports and hobbies.

This is a life changing opportunity, not only for me, but for the Fijian families in the community and in particular, MY Fijian family. I will be experiencing a ‘back to basics’ lifestyle and living with my Fijian family for just over 3 weeks, a complete contrast from the day-to-day life at university.

My daily itinerary will involve waking up at 7am (to a cold bucket shower!), trekking up to my Primary School at around 8am to begin working on my project initiatives for my expedition. The typical school day ends at around 3.15pm, where school finishes and the extra-curricular activities begin! I shall return to my village at around 4.45pm and have time to relax and often play volleyball or other sports with members of the community. At 8pm, there are cultural and team activities such as mat weaving, grog parties, music nights and talent shows.

I myself shall be doing my own fundraising activities to raise money for my trip as I truly hope to share and give something to those in need. Therefore, any donations no matter how big or small will be greatly appreciated, not only by me, but from the children of Fiji, with 30% of donations going directly to the charity.

Thank you! x
