Charity for “Kili Hope” Children’s Center Tanzania

[Project Update on October 24th, 2021]
The campaign target has been adjusted to EUR 40,000 to cover the operational costs for 2022.
The impact of the pandemic in the local Tanzanian economy deemed the "Farming for Hope" business plan unsustainable in the long run. The postponing of the farming project came with a loss of funding amounting EUR 6,000, which was bound to the execution of the project.
Despite the challenges, we continue to fund 100% of the operational costs of the center, while working together with a local NGO on resetting our sustainable development strategy and putting together a new business plan for alternatives such as 1) a grains milling farm, 2) a vegetable/fruit drying farm or 3) a for-profit export farm. These options, among others, are under evaluation.
As a first step in this strategic reset, the Kili Hope Center was officially registered as a NGO in Tanzania under the name Kili Hope Organization. This milestone is fundamental for the sustainable future of the project as it allows us to apply and receive charity grants beyond private donations.
Moreover, this allows us to move one step closer towards an envisioned partnership with an European NGO (to be announced soon!), which will help the Kili Hope Organization tap into new sources of funding and community development expertise.

ORIGINAL CAMPAIGN AS OF AUGUST 2019

[The WHY]
Your donation will impact the future of 90 children in Africa by providing them food, shelter and education for a whole year. In doing this, we will gain time to work on self-sustaining ideas for the community while not losing any child! - In other words, you are saving lives and creating a new future.
[The PROBLEM]
A vunerable group in any society, children represent a huge challenge in Tanzania. The number of orphans in some rural areas is higher due to parents dying from HIV-related health complications and road accidents. Poverty and the lack of stable educational systems lead children to the streets, where they spend their days roaming around, avoiding school, and are often victims of abuse, rape or death due to malnutrition.
To make things more complicated, state-funded orphanages are often led by corrupt owners, and the investments take too long or never really reach the children and their families.
[The GOAL]
The goal is to raise 6,000 EUROS to cover ONE YEAR of costs for running ONE CHILDREN'S CENTER located in Pasua, Moshi district, Northern Tanzania. The center looks after 90 CHILDREN (46 girls and 44 boys), and depends on benefactors to cover these monthly costs:
50 EUR - - - Rent of a space in a building, also used as classroom
100 EUR - - - School supplies
125 EUR - - - Food supplies
225 EUR - - - Fixed Staff Costs (teacher, matron and cook)
=======================
500 EUR / month - - - TOTAL
[The CHILDREN]
[The OPPORTUNITY]
Children's Centers led by social entrepreneurs and funded by donations and sponsorships represent a breathe of HOPE for kids in the region. These centers offer:
- Classrooms and a place for the children to spend their days
- Support from educators and volunteers
- Breakfast porridge and lunch
- Sports activities
- Personal and dental hygiene orientation
- Home-aid program with distribution of food, soap, cooking oil, etc.
[The BACKGROUND]
As a travel enthusiast, my exposure to contrasting realities around the world made me develop a strong sense of accountability for bringing about positive impact to less fortunate communities - especially in developing countries.
This is why in the last half a decade, I started to combine tourism with opportunities to interact and support some local communities, families and children.
After having run privately-funded efforts in Kenya, Ethiopia and Seychelles, I felt motivated to take one step further and fundraise among family, friends and colleagues to support such initiatives.
This leads to 2018, when my first fundraising for charity campaign was successfully run and completed. 100% of the funds were invested in the welfare of a group of 68 children in the community of Santa Maria in the Island of Cape Verde. It all went towards a children's library as well as food supplies and clothing for the kids. (For more details: https://www.gofundme.com/thyagoscharity )
In December 2019, my partner and I will be on a private trip to Tanzania. And this is our invitation to embark in this journey and help us leave a positive footprint in the lives of these children in need. Can we count on you?
