Tideswell Community Hall

Tideswell Community Hall

We are trying to raise funds to secure the long-term future of Tideswell Community Hall and purchase the site on which the Community Hall is located. We have a brand new, purpose built, energy efficient building and owning it would guarantee it belongs to the people of Tideswell and surrounding area for generations to come.

We have been given the fantastic and unexpected opportunity to buy the land which is currently owned by Derbyshire County Council. They have offered us the option (as sitting tenants) to acquire the site - this is a unique opportunity which we don’t want to miss as it may not come up again.

We are trying to raise £15,000 through a number of channels and it would be fantastic if the community could support us - any donation welcome.

At present we pay a peppercorn rent and have another 20 years left on our original agreement of 25 years – this may seem like a long time but the last 5 years have gone extremely quickly.

Going forward, the council could potentially put up our rent by a substantial amount and it would almost certainly be reviewed at the end of the 20 years, their other option is to put the land up for sale on the open market.

DCC have provided us with a figure which reflects the 20 years remaining as sitting tenants – this figure will increase considerably as the time left on our tenancy decreases.

In the 18 months since the Hall opened it has been widely used and is a versatile venue, accessible to all. Large sums of money were raised and grants awarded to create this wonderful communal facility; the icing on the cake would be the outright ownership of the site which would snsure its future forever as a village facility, for the community and belonging to the community. Currently we regularly host Pilates, Yoga, Cubs and Scouts, Tai chi, Tideswell Cinema and Live Stream and Repair Café. Other events have included , Tideswell Theatre, several fund raising events, Tideswell Living History group pop-up exhibition, a quiz night and private parties. National events such as the coronation and world cup ladies football final have been streamed on the Tideswell Cinema big screen and were free of charge to local residents.
