Tim Benson Fund

Yesterday, Tim Benson took an unexpected ride in the ambulance to Grand Itasca, and hours later he was transferred to the VA Hospital in Minneapolis.  After a series of tests and scans, they have found stage 4 colon, liver and stomach cancer.  He has surgery on his colon tomorrow where they will remove the largest mass which they believe is causing him great pain.  Once he has recovered from surgery, he will return home to Hill City to hopefully began chemotherapy and radiation.

If you know my brother Tim, and are reading this, you probably feel the same level of shock and dismay that myself and my family have been enduring for the past 36 hours.  Although Tim's health hasn't been great, no one thought that stage 4 cancer would be the cause.  We are all trying to process this tremendous blow, and try to offer our love and support.  Sadly, because of the world today, no one can be with him.  No one is allowed into the VA Hospital due to COVID-19 and so he is enduring this all on his own and it breaks our hearts.

Tim, 51 years old, is a disabled veteran of Desert Storm and has faced many challenges through the years.  This will no doubt, be one of the hardest.  With his wife Stacy by his side, he will battle this cancer, and we will be right there to support him.  Thankfully, he is blessed with three wonderful children, TJ, Brittany and Breanna to lift him up when times are hard.

We know this situation is dire, and facing these difficult moments ahead, we ask for your support.  Thank you for any help you can afford to support Tim and his family in the days ahead.

Tim made it out of surgery ok.  They didn't find cancer in his stomach.  What was seen on the scan was back up from the blockage in his colon.  So that is positive.  Unfortunately, the doctor said that the cancer was very bad in his liver.

They bypassed the mass on his colon (didn't remove it) and he has a colostomy on the top of his pelvis now.  They are going to keep him for a week (or longer depending) to recover and then send him home.  He will recuperate for 4-6 weeks and then hopefully start chemo.

The doctor said it was difficult to give a solid prognosis without the biopsy results, but Tim most likely has months not years.  However, it is really early to take a prognosis to heart.  They say that the cancer could respond to the chemotherapy in a positive way.  Tim is young, and he is ready to fight.

Please continue to keep him in your prayers, as well as Stacie, the kids, mom and dad...and our family.  We are truly blessed to have so many family and friends lifting us up.   Thank you all.

Tim continue to recover from his surgery in the VA Hospital in Minneapolis.  It has been extremely difficult for all as we can't be there to support and advocate for him.  His calls to Stacie are full of frustration, pain and confusion.  We want to help, but it is very difficult to get through.

One thing we do know is that Stacie will not be able work in the days, weeks and months ahead.  They will need to be on lockdown once home to ensure there isn't any exposure to COVID-19.  We are doing everything we can to support them as they move forward.
