Invest in a Future

Middle School students from a local school are being invited to participate in a West Coast educational trip to Oregon. In June several students will take part in a west coast history and adventure trip that introduces students to a different United States ecological system full of history. This trip includes experiences such as hiking and kayaking, camping in a Yurt, zoo school, discovery about the Lewis and Clarke expedition, and a chance to explore nature from volcanic mountains to the coast line. Appalachian State University's Social Work Department is raising funds to provide two students with scholarship money for a chance to take part in this experience. Two needy middle school level students would have their lives enriched and changed by being able to take part in this travel experience with their classmates. Travel provides young people with the chance to develop an interest in their national history and environment. Travel also supports learning how to develop skills for and working with others in different challenging settings.
