Teens N Theatre for social change
Donation protected
We began Teens N Theatre because we had a daughter involved in self harm. We tried many different approaches to help her, and finally something clicked. We wanted to share a message of hope with other teens who were engaging in destructive behavior.
Teens N Theatre (TNT) is a group of socially conscientious teens who are creating change in their community through theater. They are engaging other teens in conversation about situations that affect them, such as self-harm, bullying, divorce and many others.
The first performance the troupe has toured around the area is a play called "CUTTER" about a high schooler who engages in self-harm. The play deals with bystander intervention, bullying, divorce, and sexual pressure. It is performed for high school and middle schools in central Wisconsin, after which there are talk backs with the students and we have trained mental health proffesionals on hand in case things get too heavy. We have the hope of expanding and delving into film allowing us to be further reaching with our message.
The entire community benefits from the opening of these discussions in a safe environment. The youth of today feel disconnected and alone. The message we have is it is safe to talk to someone about what they are going through.
The funds will help with development of future works, pay for food (teens are eating machines) and pay for filming.
We are hoping to begin filming by the end of May, so funds must be available by then. This is ideal as the students are out of school and the film crews are available.
By supporting this cause, you are taking a stake in today’s youth and helping to change the narrative in our communities. You are helping to reach out to those who are hurting and isolated. Your donations mean the difference between the success of our project and its demise.
