Summary ;
Tongogara High School is located along the great dyke in the district of a small mining town called Shurugwi in Zimbabwe. We take much pride to have attended the school back in the days.Tongo is special to us in many ways.A special learning environment that promotes and dedicates its values to student and community development.This project will deliver Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) solutions to Tongogara high school, neighbouring schools within the catchment area and the local community at large.
This location is underserved rural areas of Shurugwi district, Zimbabwe.Through the establishment of modern, innovative computer and internet based learning programs in the school curriculum, students will improve their math and science skills and school teachers will gain skills and knowledge in computer literacy .A lovely community that embraces friendship,love and unity.A place that thrives on commitment.Evidence to commitment is Mrs Musvavairi(headmistress) and Mr Madhina(Deputy Head) who both have endured a 30 year service and still continue.Tongogara high School has managed to maintain its values and principles by recruiting the finest teachers and students in the country, most of which have excelled in their various specialities and have excellent careers. As the world become a global unit we team up to support the modernisation of our school.We call for the installation of a modern ICT laboratory and the relevant resources.
Challenge :
The effective use of ICT plays a central role in all the key education policies being taken forward by the Minstry of Education in Zimbabwe.Ensuring that young people acquire the skills to use ICT effectively, confidently and safely at Togogara High School is a key priority for all stakeholders of this campaign. Information and communication technologies are currently being used in education to assist students to learn more effectively by providing teachers with access to a wide range of new pedagogy.These technologies are also being used to enable teachers to do administrative tasks more efficiently.Lack of adequate access to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in rural areas, is one of the main challenges in the development field, especially within the education sector.Tongogara high school has 29 functional computers and a computer/learner ratio of 1:19.There are also only 3 teachers that teach ICT and only 1 is qualified. The fact that Tongogara High School is located in an underserved rural district they are a victim of this growing disparity of "digital divide" which is severely disadvantaging a whole generation of youth growing up in that rural area.The world is not turning back on digitalisation.It is the current and the future in all sectors.
Solution :
Our aim as former students who benefited from the school is to ensure that our beloved school becomes a centre of excellency by taking a lead in modernising the ICT within the region.We will run ongoing campaigns around the world and showcase for our beautiful school.We will refurbish the current ICT Laboratory and convert another Suite to increase capacity hence improving the computer/ learner ratio.We will provide more computers and viable internet access within the school. An appropriate and innovative math and science curriculum will be designed accordingly to the educational system regulations, social and cultural contexts of Zimbabwe. Teachers will be trained in math and science teaching programs as well as in computer literacy and internet usage as part of the first stage of the project implementation. Long-Term
Impact :
Children and youth educational development will be enhanced hence promoting marketability in the job industry after they graduate. Teachers experience in teaching computer and internet-based learning programs will enhance their qualifications. The digital divide will be bridged resulting in new opportunities for children, youth, teachers and the community at large Our intervention as former students Will take the school to greater hights. Former students and friends of Tongogara in Zimbabwe and around the world please support this initiative and help our school become a centre of excellence. Thank you for your support. Together;
