Tony and Angela Cardenas House Fire
Donation protected
Our friends Tony and Angela Cardenas lost just about everything when another apartment in their building caught fire during the night of Saturday, June 11th. Their son Jason woke them up and got everyone out. Thanks to him, everyone is safe and sound! The entire apartment building, however, is destroyed and has been condemned. They only had about 10 – 15 minutes to grab a few things and get out. According to the Fire Marshal’s Office, 18 units, within a 24-unit apartment complex, sustained heavy fire damage and are a total loss. The fire was caused by an improperly discarded cigarette butt on someone’s second floor balcony.
Tony and the whole Cardenas family have been the very heart of our Washington Redskins Marching Band Family for many, many years. My first email from him upon joining the band included his mantra “We believe in a simple governing way: Your God, family, work, and Redskins Marching Band in that order. Should the first three require more attention, than you would review your commitment to our Band.” I can’t say it better than that.
I, for one, was at a bit of a loss as to how I could help. I look around my own home and wonder what I would grab in 10 minutes before running out of a burning house. How do you pick? Yes, things are replaceable, but replacing them is not easy.
We have started this Go Fund Me for them to hopefully ease their mind and help their transition from temporary emergency hotel to a new home – even if it is just a little bit.
We love you Tony and Angela!
