My Dream to Study Abroad in Japan

Donation protected
My name is Joshua and I'm twenty-nine years old. It has been my lifelong dream to study abroad and, as a future educator, the history of Japan has long since been in my sights.  Despite working a full time job while attending school full time, I just cannot gather the funds to study abroad.  Many advisers and online resources have recommended crowd funding to obtain the monetary requirements.

The high price of travel and living in another country, one I would be unable to work in, leaves me afraid for how to make ends meet while studying there. Being unable to work during that time would also make it nearly impossible to pay bills while abroad.

I have been accepted to the CIEE Program for a month long study abroad in Tokyo, Japan.  My government financial aid cannot be applied to this school as my home school does not include options for studies overseas.  However, the experience is heavily related to my major and would further solidify my skills as a future educator. Much of my initial teaching experience will include teaching English in Japan; hopefully affording me the ability to teach Japanese here at home.

As a young child, and well into adolescence, my fascination with Japan was prevalent. I spent many hours as a child staring into my grandfather's National Geographic collection, dreaming of the day I'd travel abroad. I was immediately ensnared by the rich history and pop culture of Japan from a young age; it has always been my dream to travel there. However, coming from a family of limited means, traveling abroad has never been possible.

Studying in Japan would be a dream come true. It would significantly broaden my ability to relate with students of varid cultural identities in our beautiful and diverse country. Expressing my gratitude in this endeavor leaves me with a lack of words suitable for describing what it would mean to me. I can only say thank you for making my dreams come true.  When the time for me to study abroad comes, you can follow my experiences on my Instagram "JoshPathfinder" where I will post images regularly of my adventures abroad.  I will also be Tweeting updates of my experiences at @J_Pathfinder  #PathfinderInJapan  and I will try to post videos of myself practicing Japanese and talking about experiences so far on my YouTube chanel 'JoshDPathfinder'!  Thank you very much for your support!
