Peter/Dad Overcoming Cancer
Donation protected
As many of you are now aware, our Dad, Peter Sutcliffe has just been diagnosed with Stage 5 Prostate Cancer.
The doctors have said it's currently inoperable and advised that it started outside the prostate in a way they have never seen before. A PET scan showed it has metastasized to a few spots throughout his body including his spine and lymph glands. The diagnosis has obviously been very shocking for our family. Due to the fact that it strangely did not develop inside the prostate, but rather outside and around it, the original tumor did not show up on routine prostate checks even just 6 months ago, when he was told he had perfect prostate health.
Dad and Mum have been currently living in Redding, California USA, but were in Australia for some other health and family stuff when Dad suddenly experienced some symptoms which resulted in an emergency appointment with a Urologist on Sept 5th 2019, which was actually his 72nd birthday.
The following 10 days were extremely hard for us as the gravity of the diagnosis unfolded and we are still very much in the midst of this battle.
HOWEVER amidst such an awful diagnosis, God has been our great source of peace and comfort and given us an anchor of hope for the future! As we have pressed into prayer with family and friends we are constantly deeply encouraged that God will deliver Dad from this diagnosis, increase his years and fulfill the many promises Dad & Mum are yet to walk out in the earth!
People have been asking how they can help... THANK YOU... that means the world to us!!!!....
The absolute best thing you can do for our family is pray and agree with us for a complete MIRACLE! We will not bow down to this disease and we know our God has the final word over Dad's life and healing.
In the meantime, there are practical medical steps that need to be taken and various pathways for treatment to be considered and commenced in the coming weeks and months; and these things are very costly.
Dad and Mum have been in church ministry and missions work most of their adult life, Dad completed his PHD and has spent many years voluntarily teaching at a missions bible college in the Philippines. In living a life of missions and ministry they have not had the opportunity to build a nest egg or financial security for retirement, so this situation is even more daunting as they consider how to cover the costs on the road ahead. It is on that basis, as their daughters, that we have set up this GoFundMe initiative for people to give as they feel in their hearts, towards our overall goal of supporting Dad in this journey and helping cover the various costs and avenues of treatment needed to aid his body in this healing process.
Already Dad had to pursue diagnosis and early treatment through the private medical system in Australia as his case was simply too urgent to just "wait in the cue" through the public system so they are already facing several medical bills. They also have the ongoing expense of extending their time in Australia and now investigating treatment options back in the USA, as it is their home and where they feel called to be.
Dads unique and advanced case means that the medical system seem to have very few options to offer him for a cure long term, and therefore he is also looking to pursue natural treatments to help his body heal and eradicate the cancer. We are currently looking to start treatment with a natural doctor in LA that helped a close friend fully recover from aggressive stage 4 cancer, however we've been quoted $8000 to just begin this process.
Many know that Mum and Dads move to the USA last year was ultimately the result of a word God spoke to Dad over 40 years ago, which has been confirmed multiple times since. In connection with that, Dad has in 2019 been in the final stages of editing a book he has written, as the culmination of his amazing life experiences and deep personal relationship with God, along with years of research and study of the Bible and we are expectant for it to be published in 2020. We truly believe the wealth of wisdom and revelation this man carries is going to continue to change many lives as they have stepped out to follow Gods call to the USA, so we just know his work here on earth is far from done and we actually feel expectant hope for their future and this season of promise they are currently in.
Dad has encouraged us all to look for the divine perspective in all this and has felt the Lord inspire him to differentiate between diagnosis and prognosis. This idea being that diagnosis is understanding what it is that's happening in his body but Prognosis is a prediction of the future based on those facts. Thus he understands he has to accept the diagnosis of the doctors but he firmly believes his prognosis must come from God alone! Only God is in control of His future and in that we have found much peace and confidence! As he encourages us from 2 Cor 4:18 "While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal".
Dad is the greatest person we know on the planet (no exaggeration)!! Us girls have always called him our hero, yet even that word fails somehow to convey our deep admiration, absolute love and complete respect we have for this incredible man of God. He truly is a saint and has taught us and thousands of others about the loving-kindness of our Father God and the beauty of truly walking with Jesus! Dad's main message our whole lives has been about character, and that we are not defined by the circumstances we find ourselves in, but by our response to those circumstances.
While being faced with his current (very hard) circumstances, he once again inspires us with his faith and trust in God and we couldn't be more proud or honored to walk beside him and watch this miracle journey unfold!
The stage is set for a great MIRACLE ! The doctors have said Dad's case is "one for the books" in that its .. We say it is one for the HIS-STORY books and we can't wait to update you on the story as it unfolds!
Thank you for your kindness and love to support our family in this journey!
With much love
