Machu Picchu Trek for Jacob Nicol

Hello :)
I am Courtney Shore, I am from Cornwall In the UK, this year I will be trekking the amazing Salkantay route to Machu Picchu In Peru. This trek is a more challenging alternative to the Inca Trail. I will be trekking for 5 days through the Salkantay Pass, reaching 4,600m (15,200 ft) at its highest point. Start the trek hiking through glaciers and finish the hike down in the jungle.

I am raising money for the most kind hearted, beautiful soul I have ever met. Last year Jacob Nicol and his family's lives were changed forever. He is now living his life in hospital with severe brain damage. Unable to enjoy the simple things we all take for granted: being able to eat, care for himself, commuicate or move his body how he wants. Not being able to do the things he loves, like play guitar, sketch and enjoy times with friends. Unfortunately these things have all be sadly stripped away from him. A year on, there is hope and positive progression but so much still to be done to help.

Jacob is the most genine, funny and all round charmer you will ever meet. Anyone who knows or has had the pleasure of meeting will always tell you how lovely and happy a person he is, I feel blessed to know such a wonderful person.

The story:

Jacob is 23 and was working  on a superyacht. He was following his dreams of travelling the world, when he was involved in a very serious incident whilst cleaning the boat. This incident resulted in him drowning which has left him with very severe brain damage and in a minmaly conscious state. The investigation is still undergoing. A year on and Jacob and his wonderful and loving family have really been to hell and back. They have honestly had everything thrown at them. The support from friends and the public they have had has been amazing . Unfortunately this has been met with false promise, emotional abuse and lack of finacial help. An emotional and endless battle that has left this family fighting daily to get the right care for the person they love the most. 
He fights daily, dealing with his spacicity, epilepsy, brain storming and fits. It's so sad to see him go through this and not be able to commuicate how he feels. 

From day one we were told Jacob would never make the progression which has has today. He is now able to answer questions correctly by using a clicker, commuicate with his eyes, move parts of his body very slowly and make noises. It is truely amazing to see how far he has come against all the odds! 

He is currently in a slow stream rehab unit but has only been given funding for 90 days. They have been renting 'eyegaze' equiptment for Jacob which has been very effective and allows him the oppertunity to communicate what he needs and when he is in pain. The eyegaze system cost around £7000 and would be such a life changing tool for Nicol and his family. It would really mean the world to be able to raise this much and purchase the eyegaze equiptment for them. Giving Jacob the ability to commicate with friends and family is so  very special!


I will be paying for the trek and flights myself and all the money I raise on here will be going towards buying the eyegaze equiptment. 
I'm am so excited to do the trek and will be thinking of Nicol (Jacob) every step of the way!
