Tuko Pamoja Initiative
The Tuko Pamoja Initiative is an organization that aims to dismantle the stigma and plight against People with albinism (PWA) in Tanzania. For hundreds of years PWA have been subject to severe discrimination and marginalisation and live their lives under constant threat of attack and persecution.
As a Tanzanian and global community it is our responsibility to enable Persons with albinism to access opportunities, to live their lives freely and at peace and to rise above the years of cruelty they have been exposed to.
The Tuko Pamoja Initiative's goals are to empower PWA in Tanzania, to boost their confidence and self-esteem and to create a mindset of self belief.
In Tanzania, the issue regarding PWA has shifted away from the belief in a stigma, to a community that is educated on the truth behind the condition but which chooses to persistently marginalise PWA in educational facilities, social settings as well as the work place.
With the support of our donors we intend to carry out the following projects in the months of June and July:
- A confidence and life skills training session aimed at empowering PWA to be confident in their bodies, to believe in their dreams and achieve them. They will learn a variety of skills allowing them to access tertiary education, employment opportunities and even to create a career out of their passions and talents.
- Awareness of the steps the Tanzanian community can take to ensure the inclusion of PWA and that we as a nation empower our own in any way that we can, including but not limited to job offers, educational support and training.
- Mobilisation of resources to conduct a drive distributing necessities such as sunscreen, long sleeved clothing, hats and vision glasses for PWA in Tanzania allowing them to protect themselves, prevent the development of skin cancer and to enable them to live happy and normal lives.
All funds will be used to conduct projects to achieve the goals listed above.
The Tuko Pamoja Initiative is open to any individual who wishes to help in any way that they can.
Our passion towards benefitting our community is what drives us to create a more accepting and safer society for all Tanzanians.
