Tully Academic Decathlon Nationals!
Tully's Academic Decathlon recently won the State Championships! This is a historic win as they have competed for years, but this is their first overall win. They will be moving on to compete in the National Championship on April 18-21. The chance to compete at the national level is quite costly. The competition takes place in Frisco, Texas (about 30 minutes north of Dallas). We are asking for some financial assistance to defray the costs of lodging (around $2000), food, and other incidentals for eight competitors and two chaperones. We are one of the smallest schools in the competition, competing against schools that can be more than five times our size.
Academic Decathlon is one of the premier academic competitions in the country, with a curriculum that goes beyond that of a typical high school. Students are expected to master 10 subjects (art, essay, interview, literature, math, music, science, social science, and speech), all related around a theme. (This year's theme was Africa.) The team is composed of students at differing GPA levels (A, B, and C) in an Olympics-style setting. This year, at the State championships, Tully's team walked away with 30 of the 90 medals possible. Any financial assistance given is truly appreciated. Students have put in months of preparation for this competition. Many of the 8 students planning on attending have been on the team for multiple years, showing their dedication.
