1 of only 50 in the world.....

My son's name is Apollo Angelo Brock he is 8 months old. He has been diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome monosomy 7 a rare child cancer. Only 50 people in the world have it.

Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is a blood cancer in which the bone marrow produces ineffective red cells which carry oxygen, white blood cells which fight infection and/or platelets which help in clotting.

About 20,000 people are newly diagnosed with MDS each year in the United States. While the risk of MDS increases with age, it is also diagnosed in children, including infants. MDS is more common in males than females. About 30 percent of all patients with MDS will eventually develop a type of leukemia that is especially hard to treat. Coincidently, Minnesota has some of the highest incidence rates of MDS in the United States. Ongoing research attempts to understand why that might be.

My family and I are doing everything we can to raise funds to be able to get the treatment Apollo needs. As you may or not not know treatment for cancer patients is very very costly. It can cost thousands of dollars. Not sure how much to ask for but know that any little bit will go a long way. The cost aren't fully covered by medical insurance and it is proving difficult to keep up with medical bills.

I currently work 2 jobs so that my wife can stay home with the babies. We are trying to raise funds so that we can keep getting Apollo the treatments he needs. We have been told by the doctors we may have to move out of state to get Apollo to a specialized facility. That would be great for Apollo but we are unsure how that would work financially. Where would we live and where would I work?

Do you know what it feels like to work and work to get what your family needs? Multiply that feeling by a million and pile on the emotional effects of not knowing what the future holds for your baby boy. Unless you have a loved one going through a medical difficulty you may never understand. The emotional and financial stress is something words cannot fully express. I truly hope no one goes through the pain my family is experiencing. For those already going through it, may you have plenty love and support.

If you could find it in your heart to help out in anyway it will be greatly appreciated

Sincerely

Adrian Brock and family
