Tawfiq's Alternative Gym Therapy

It is my pleasure and my honor to present to you the story of a remarkable young man. But, don't bother pulling out your tissues to dab your eyes in anticipation of some tragic and valiant hero that sends you into heaves of sobs as you reach for your purse strings. This story is a little different. Tawfiq was born 19 years ago with cerebral palsy related to the malformations of the motor centers of his brain. He has lived his life in a wheekchair unable to walk, sit up, stand or even use his hands. Yet with all of these challenges, he has managed to participate in and direct his life with eagerness, happiness, enthusiasm and gratitude. He graduated from high school with honors last year in anticipation of going to college and majoring in communication and sports management, two skills he needs to fulfil his dream of becoming a football coach. We find, at this juncture in his life, that he is confronted with some problems that can't be ignored. Possibly due to his medications and lifestyle, he has gained an enormous amount of weight over the past few years that has impacted his health and his hopes for the future. Because he is completely sedentary, we have turned our attention to a remarkable physical therapy treatment that allows him to do intensive workouts that increase his tone and muscle mass and repair and develope function in his brain.
Well, I told you the story wasn't sad and then go onto list what may be looked at as a pitiable set of circumstances! That's because Tawfiq's story isn't one of disability but of his ability to approach life with such courage, faith and good humor that you'll find yourself envying his life and taking notes on how to incorporate those qualities in your day to day challenges.
