<div><strong>Louvenia Jenkins is a survivor of the 2025 Pacific Palisades fire</strong> that saw her home of seventy-odd years and all her possessions reduced to ash. Louvenia Jenkins is a 97-year-old neighbor of the Pacific Palisades. She is one of the first individuals of African descent to own property in the Palisades, and certainly the first Black woman to be a homeowner in the neighborhood.

<div>Louvenia Jenkins was and is loved by many, having been an educator in Southern California for years, and a mentor to friends and family for many more years. Just last year, students at Santa Monica Community College made a documentary about her life and, equally as important, how she uplifted the lives of those around her. Not so long ago, she invested much of her personal wealth to create the UNCF scholarship #byLAforLA. Her investment funded the Richard L. Sykes Memorial Scholarship, named after her cousin. Starting in the 2019-2020 academic year, the Sykes Memorial Scholarship supported 25 rising first-year African American students who were residents of the greater Los Angeles area, through up to five years of college.

<div>In 2023, I came across the compelling story of a remarkable 9-year-old Grayson (now 10). He has shown incredible resilience, being legally blind and undergoing 37 surgeries to help his vision. His determination to raise funds to travel the world, despite him being blind in 1 eye and limited sight in his other eye, truly resonated with me. He began selling lemonade and cookies to support his dream of visiting China and other countries.

<div>Last year, Grayson organized a fundraiser for the blind in Ghana, setting an ambitious goal of 100 canes and exceeding it by donating 200 canes. This achievement highlights his generosity and tenacity, made possible by the support of kind donors. His philanthropic efforts focus on helping the blind and those in need, showcasing his big heart and compassionate spirit.

This house has not only hosted him but almost 4 generations of Reeds and has also hosted multiple family events and cherished multiple memories. Not just him but his son and grand daughter clothes and food have all been destroyed who were also living with my grandfather. This house is not just a living space it was a place where family came together through the hardest of times and was full of love and memories that my grandfather will never get back. <div>As many of might know already, our sweet little grandma who is 82 years old, and was recently diagnosed with Alzheimers, has lost her home to the Altadena Fires. She left her home of 30 years, when the heavy winds picked up to be with us for comfort and safety. What we didn’t realize at the time, was that we never going to be able to make it back to her home to grab any valuables, clothes, pictures or memories. We as a family of 4 are still evacuated and staying in small hotel room with our dog AJ.

<div>Our grandma has made a huge impact on the community of Altadena, working first as a social worker, then as a special education teacher, and then on to a career supporting individuals with special needs through Education Spectrum on Lake Avenue in Altadena almost 30 years.

<div>Being in her home had helped her remain comfortable and keep her recollection of treasured memories during this time in her life, being surrounded by pictures of her loved ones and family. This experience has been especially challenging for my grandmother, in that her diagnosis makes it difficult for her to remember, where she is, what is happening, and why she cannot return to her home. This is the same home where my family and I would enjoy Holidays, where my brother and I memorized High School Musical 2 and solved the harmless mysteries she would set up for us, and where my grandmother had kept her entire life. Any donation will help us get her into assisted living and in a routine, feeling safe and comfortable again.

<div>It's heartbreaking to share that our dear friend Nicole, owner of Pasadena Wine Shop and lover of her community, lost her home in the Eaton Fire on Wednesday January 8th. She was in South America with her father at the time, so she was unable to take any of her treasured belongings before the fires took hold. By the time she returned home to Altadena, the structure was completely gone, nothing but ashes remained.

<div>Nicole is known in her community for being the first one to extend a helping hand. She spends every day face-to-face with her community - her wine shop she self-describes as "Cheers where all the bottles are closed". It's truly the place you can go and be known.

<div>It's on trend for a small business owner to put everything into their business and forget to take care of themselves. Sadly, Nicole didn't make the time to get renter's insurance on her home and will have to recover the cost of all her belongings. Much more importantly, she will have to recover the feeling of "home", which will take years to find again.

<div>What's most inspiring is since the fires, Nicole has focused all her energy into bringing free wine to those who lost their homes or businesses in the Eaton Fire. She's created "Relief Wine Sets" through a combination of donating her shop's inventory and collecting donations from partnering wineries. She is the sole owner of her business without investors or partners, and carries the financial weight of her future. Rather than reel in her resources at this time to weather the storm ahead, she is giving more than ever to her community. Nicole has decided to keep her business closed to the general public in the immediate aftermath of the fires, in order to concentrate her efforts in giving back through her Relief Wine Sets.

<div>The Youngblood family is reaching out to the community during an unprecedented time of hardship. Our lives were upended by the devastating Eaton Canyon fires in Altadena, California.

<div>This tragedy ravaged our home which my parents purchased over 30 years ago, leaving the family without access to essential items, sentimental possessions, and stability. For over 50 years, we have proudly called the Altadena area home, and now we find ourselves turning to neighbors and friends that we have long cherished for help.

<div>Willie Youngblood Jr. a pilar of the Altadena/Pasadena community, has been especially impacted. Willie was a star football athlete at John Muir High School and a graduate of Bacone College in Oklahoma. Although Willie had a promising future in law enforcement, he returned home to Altadena to care for his mother who had fallen sick. Willie's life took a drastic turn after suffering a life-threatening injury due to senseless gun violence that left him paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair. Despite his dedication and determination to adapt, the fire has destroyed the medical equipment and supplies he needs for daily living and rehabilitation.

<div>The Youngblood family has also faced several devastating losses of immediate family members, particularly the recent of loss our mother, Vickie Youngblood. This recent heartbreak has compounded the emotional and physical toll on the family, particularly on Willie Jr., who must now face his ongoing challenges without his mother’s loving support. We are also in need of support for our elderly father, Willie Sr., as he copes with the physical and emotional strain of these circumstances. Willie Sr. has been there to support his son despite his own serious medical issues and recent loss of his beloved wife of more the fifty years.

<div>My name is Ryan Abourisk, and I am Eric’s grandson. I live in Los Angeles near by and have been spending as much time as possible to support him during this tragic time.  On the heels of his 93rd birthday, my grandfather’s life was turned upside down by the Pacific Palisades wildfires. The home he bought in 1963 with his late wife, Rose—who passed away in 2022—was completely destroyed. All that he built with her, every memory, every cherished item, has been reduced to ashes.

<div>In the chaos of the evacuation, Eric was given just a few hours to leave his home, with only a small suitcase of clothes—no photos, no important documents, no personal keepsakes. The memories they created together have been lost, and he is now left trying to rebuild not just his life, but his sense of home.

<div>Eric has always been strong, but at 93 years old, this tragedy has been incredibly hard to bear. He never imagined that a simple evacuation would turn into a total loss. I am reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for assistance on behalf of my grandparents,Maria and Rudy, whose home was tragically destroyed in the recent Eaton Canyon Palisades fire in Altadena, California. As you can imagine, this is an incredibly difficult time for them, and any support would make an immeasurable difference in helping them get back on their feet.

<div>My grandparents are retired and live on a fixed income from Social Security. My grandmother, who spent years working for the Department of Water and Power of Los Angeles, and my grandfather, who worked at Sysco, have always been hardworking and independent. My grandfather is a survivor of lymphatic cancer, and just two weeks ago, he underwent a stent procedure. Along with their medical bills, they are already facing the rising costs of insurance payments and property taxes, which have at times made it seem like they might have to leave their cherished home. We never imagined that the reason they would have to leave would be due to the devastation of a fire.

Chad is one of the best people I know; he's a musician, a community organizer, and for the past several years, has been taking care of his disabled parents. Chad's mom is paralyzed by Neuromyelitis Optica, a rare autoimmune disease, and his dad is blind. Chad is the best boss I've ever worked for and one of the kindest people I know. The fire took everything: clothes, possessions, and memories. His parents didn't have insurance on the home. Chad and his family need immediate financial assistance to help recover from the fire.
