Braiden Whitwell has just turned four, his parent's have just been informed on Tuesday 7 th May of his brain tumour. Braiden's parent's were initially informed by doctor's his tumour was an inoperable tumour the size of a mandarin at the base of his neck. He is currently in Westmead Children's hospital (If you do not believe our situation you may ring them yourselves) I say this as people have accused us as a hoax which I can assure is not. Surgeons gave his life expectancy eight or nine weeks approximately without Radiation treatment with radiation his life expectancy would be approximately nine to twelve months. It's expected he will become a vegetable before this, before dieing the family were told. His family were further informed he has Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma. DIPG for short. He is still at the stage of being a happy boisterous little boy. Dysphasia has set in, so he is now having trouble eating and drinking to a degree which will only worsen. His headaches are more frequent and his mobilty has decreased, falling over more frequently. He has a little sister Lexi who may never grow up knowing her big brother. The family booked Braiden in for an appointment with the best Neuro surgeon in Australia, Dr Charlie Teo. Family were informed by other medical doctors they could not operate, Dr Teo feels Braiden has a chance after another child survived a similiar operation and supposedly was worse than Braiden. It was still pointed out to Braiden's parent's that with operations there could still be complications. Braiden could come out better, he could die on the operating table, become a vegetable, no better if he does not have the operation, a glimmer of hope if he does have this operation, in with a chance is better than no chance. This will be financially draining on a family already struggling, who are all trying to pull the funding together, for any glimmer of hope. Any funding would be greatly appreciated to allow a chance for this beautiful little boy to live and grow into a lovely young man. Braiden's family have just been informed by Neuro surgeon Dr Teo he would like to operate on this coming Monday 18th May he has told the family he thinks it is two different tumours they have also been told this money for the hospital which will need to be private is $40.000 then the anethatist the list goes on. Charlie Teo has informed the family we need $80,000 by Monday 18th May. The family were offered to go through the public hospital sector which will take to long and time is not on Braidens side. This is why we have chosen the private sector. We are all going to the bank to see what they will lend us. Wish us Good luck and please keep donating. Western Advocate will publish our story Thursaday 14 th May. Awaiting to hear back from A Current Affair. The Today Show and Sunrise At Seven have been emailed about Braiden. Family have spoken to radio station's and some are rafflling off donations. An auction has been organised and a percentage of the proceeds will be donated. The family are distraught, who in there right mind would not be. All they ask is this chance for Braiden to have Dr Charlie Teo to operate whatever the outcome. Last of all I apologise for the way I have written this I am not good with words or how to express our needs maybe more sensitively, or having expressed myself clearer for this operation any better than I have attempted. It is not to upset anyone, with what I have written, not here to deface anybody's reputation. It's just a plea for help in saving Braiden's life. What more can I say. Channel seven are going to interview Megan and Shaun at Westmead for the news tonight. Thankyou to Ray Hadley for his effort on the radio 2GB, this morning. And a continuing Thankyou to all people donating.
