Christine's Medical/Recovery Fund

We are raising money for Christine Dorough Pape who is 44 years old, afflicted with a condition called Aggressive Angiomyxoma. Christine is a devoted single mother of two beautiful girls. Since her divorce, Christine has struggled to keep a roof over her daughter’s heads, food on the table, clothing on their backs but most of all, even though not fancy, she strived to provide a loving home. Christine is a loving daughter, a loving sister, a caring aunt and an amazing friend! Christine is always the first person to come running when someone needs help and although accepting help is hard for her because she has always been so independant, we are now asking for everyone to please help her.

5 years ago, Christine was diagnosed with Aggressive Angiomyxoma. It was the scariest thing that has ever happened to her. Aggressive Angiomyxoma is a myxoid tumor involving the blood vessels. It can affect the vulva and other parts of the pelvis. Although it is a benign tumor and does not invade the neighboring tissue, it has a tendency to reoccur after surgical excision so it is termed as aggressive.

Christine went forward with this extensive 10 hour surgery despite the risk of possibly needing a colostomy bag. The surgery left Christine with a scar almost a foot long. The doctors were amazed as the tumor was as large as a human head. The recovery was very painful but she fought like we knew she would. During this time, Christine was unable to work, exhausted her savings account and was forced to rely on the help of family and friends to pay the bills and to put food on the table.

Over the course of the next few years, Christine worked 2 jobs to get herself and her children back to where they needed to be. Well, ladies and gentlemen, our worst fear has come to light, the tumor is back as predicted. The risks are far worse than the first time as the new tumor is wrapped around her rectum. There is a huge amount of scar tissue that will have to be removed as well. A colostomy bag is inevitable this time because the doctors are forced to remove her rectum. In addition, the tumor is close to invading her vagina. The doctors will be opening her up using the same incision from her first surgery. This time, the surgery will change her life forever.

We are encouraging Christine to join a support group for people with this affliction but most of all, she needs to learn both physically and mentally, how to live with the colostomy bag. For an active 44 year old woman, this will not be an easy task.

Our goal is to give Christine peace of mind during her recovery. She will need approximately 6 months to recover. We are asking for help because as we said earlier, Christine will not be able to work. We do not want her to be constantly worrying about her financial obligations. She will be at risk of losing her home, her car, having limited money to pay bills, buy food, etc. Although Christine has insurance, medical bills will most likely be lifelong for her as this type of tumor has a very high rate of reoccurrence.

We appreciate any donation that you can make to help Christine with getting through her recovery without her having to lose everything she has worked so hard to build.

Please keep Christine in your prayers and send positive thoughts her way as she will need them! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
