ELSB Drama Festival 2016

Donation protected
The ELSB Drama Festival has been a part of our Island school board for 29 years. It was started in the gymnasium of Queen Charlotte Intermediate School by the founder Allan Pendergast. Thousands of children have participated in this inclusive enrichment program and many have continued on as theatre professionals. This year it will run April 18 to April 21 at the Florence Simmons Performance Hall in Charlottetown and The Kings Playhouse in Georgetown. Twelve schools will be presenting 16 plays. Over 300 students are involved.

We are in trouble. Each year, the cost of renting the venues and providing the technical support continues to rise however our budget does not. I can honestly say that the English LanguageSchool Board is supporting us as much as they can financially. Ticket sales do not bridge the gap any longer. We need financial support.  Every little bit counts. Please help me save this program!

I watched a play rehearse the other evening in Georgetown. They are presenting a work that was written by the students. Set in a medieval time, a kingdom struggles with the prospect of welcoming strangers  who are escaping troubles within their own Kingdom. They explored all aspects of our current influx of refugees and beautifully related that if we don't help them , who will? What if our roles were reversed? These students will be our leaders some day! These are their thoughts  and words that educate not only the kids in their schools but society in general. We can't lose an educational tool that has such a positive impact on our student's development.

I have have put my heart and soul into this program because I believe in it. I am spending more and more time worrying about the costs and less and less time marvelling at the brilliance  of our youth. Please help.

I will publicly acknowlepdge contributors at ALL of our sessions next week and we will celebrate your generosity through the media.

If you want to see a measurable difference in student achievement, give them an audience.
