Umandi is a project built by people who are just like you, who want to do their part to create a brighter future. We are students who saw the value that entrepreneurial enterprise could add to a community and the individuals within it. It is the perfect way to fight poverty and inequality in a long-lasting way because we tackle the root of the problem. That is why we start right here.

What are we about?

Umnandi’s mission is to provide young South Africans with practical knowledge and motivation to pursue entrepreneurial projects which benefit their communities. Umnandi is a project initiated by students at the Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship in collaboration with Engineers Without Borders South Africa and Sci-Bono.

We strive to inspire and empower young South Africans by conducting entrepreneurial workshops that teach enterprising concepts and practical tools to identify and evaluate business opportunities and develop an implementation plan. The workshops introduce fundamental startup theories and concepts revolving around teamwork, idea generation, business development, pitching and more.

Who are we?

We are a diverse team of entrepreneurship students from Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship and Sahlgrenska School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Sweden with different cultural and educational backgrounds ranging from engineering to economics, law, science and even visual arts.


Since we feel that the knowledge we gained from our master program is worth spreading, we created Umnandi as a catalyst in igniting the minds of underprivileged youth in South Africa.

What has happened so far and what are we up to?

Umnandi was founded in 2016 and two inaugural workshops were held in Johannesburg and Cape Town in April 2017 with around 80 participants. We got great feedback and saw the impact that it had on these young people. Since this, our team has grown from four to fourteen, and we have also widened our network in Africa.


Your donation will enable us to go back to South Africa this year around Easter and reach even more people, deepen our relationship with local partners and provide this young generation with the tools they need to start their own business.
