The Sun Didn’t Shine After Harvey
Donation protected
On Memorial Day, 2015, my family and I were flooded out of our apartment. Two years later, on August 25, 2017, Hurricane Harvey struck and, again, we lost everything but the shirts on our backs. This included our apartment, furniture, car, motorcycle, clothes, and anything else you can imagine. In addition to this, we were robbed shortly there after while we were trying to move everything out. The thieves stole my husband’s bicycle, all of our electronics, and my family jewelry, which is irreplaceable. Luckily, my fabulous mother-in-law, Bobbie, was more than willing to take us in. Unfortunately though, she has flood damage herself. As of right now, there are six of us living in a 800 square-foot two bedroom home. We are extremely cramped and are very concerned about the roof caving in and the walls coming down. FEMA refused to help and her insurance paid very little. It really wasn’t even enough to get us started on our repairs. Our household includes my husband, my two children, my mother-in-law, and my mother, who had a stroke about three years ago. My son is so traumatized from this, that he cries profusely even if we just have drizzle. He is so scared all of the time that it’s going to happen again and this time we are going to drown. My daughter, on the other hand, took it upon herself to practice her karate in the flooded waters. Absolutely hilarious. We are all trying to have her attitude, but unfortunately, it is very difficult. With your help, we can make my mother and my children’s life less stressful. The way I look at it, we are all in this together and we will find a way to Get our lives back. We promise to use this money wisely and as quickly as possible for exactly what it is needed.
