Utah's Fight for Alcohol
Donation protected
Utah’s legislature has consistently been sour towards the sale and consumption of alcohol. It is the first and only state to lower the DUI limit from .08 to .05, and one of the only states left that allows for only 3.2 percent beer to be sold in grocery and convenience stores. The state has been so hostile towards the alcohol industry that it has recently garnered attention from national media outlets like NPR, the Los Angeles Times, and USA Today.
Because of this, over 40 local businesses (and counting) have joined together to form the Utah Hospitality Association. An organization that focuses solely on lobbying for alcohol reform in the state. No members of the association are paid. All contributions will go towards lobbying efforts.
We have a plan to fight back against the state that has constricted and over-regulated the responsible consumption of alcohol. This year, we are seeking legislation that allows for the sale of heavy beer in grocery and convenience stores. We will also be going after the repeal of last year’s passed legislation (HB 155) that lowered the blood alcohol limit for a DUI from .08 to .05.
Utah's legislature is entrenched in Mormon ideals, ideals that prohibit any consumption of alcohol. Nevertheless, we are confident that we can succeed in achieving these legislative reforms (and more).
With your contribution, we will accomplish a complete overhaul of the alcohol laws in this state.
