Overview
In Limbo Too is a powerful not-for-profit book. Its format is a collection of personal testimonies from UK citizens living in the European Union. Just like the first book In Limbo, which was a collection of personal testimonies from European Union citizens living in the UK, who have also been living in limbo since June 24th 2016. Together we are approximately 4.2 million human beings.
Both books began as an original concept by Elena Remigi and come under the In Limbo Project. The first book In Limbo was published in June 2017 and co-edited by Elena Remigi, Véronique Martin and Tim Sykes. Thanks to the success of the crowd funding initiative and the royalty payments, the first book has been sent to over 800 politicians both in the UK and Brussels. The book has also been presented at universities, marches and many other events. To date over 5000 copies have been sold.
About In Limbo Too
The book is the result of the strong collaboration between two groups, In Limbo – Our Brexit Testimonies and Brexpats – Hear our Voice, all European Citizens affected by the Referendum result.
The book captures the shame, anger; fear and worries of real people in their own voices and shows them as unique individuals rather than anonymous numbers or stereotypes.
This new book has been co-edited by Elena Remigi, Debbie Williams, Helen De Cruz, Sarah Pybus, Paul Blackburn and Clarissa Killwick.
What is the money for?
When the book is ready to be published, it will be sold all over Europe and we are asking for your help to raise the £9,500 needed to cover the costs of publication, distribution and publicity to give these voices the impact they deserve.
We haven’t just picked the figure £9,500 from a hat. We know that to date the project has spent £5,500 on In Limbobooks, distribution costs and £2,000 on merchandising such as leaflets, badges and pens.
Because we will need to promote In Limbo Too across the whole of the EU27 we believe we need to add an additional £2,000 for increased distribution costs and to subsidise essential travel costs that allows our advocates to attend essential meetings.
Why is it so important?
UK citizens in living in Europe and EU citizens living in the UK will now have a combined voice, because of these books, no longer can their voices be ignored or marginalised. We need to get these testimonies out to decision makers across Europe to shape the debate and remind them that we are real people and not just statistics or ‘bargaining chips’. We also want to make sure that the wider public has access to both books and hear our combined voice through our personal testimonies.
The In Limbo Project is an example of pan-European cooperation at its best, showcasing what people can achieve when working together across borders to achieve a common goal and with a unified voice.
We ask you, please be part of our fight. Your support is vital to ensure that our voices are heard as loudly and as widely as possible. In Limbo has had a huge impact therefore your support will make sure that In Limbo Too can achieve the same.
Thank you so much for your generosity.
