Give Hope! Give 30 Boys a New Home
Donation protected
Three Months, 30 children, and a New Orphanage.
This school year we have had the chance to get to know the 30 boys who live at the Midlands Children's Hope Centre, an orphanage, in Gweru, Zimbabwe through a pen pal project. Before they had the good fortune to make their way to the orphanage they lived on the streets, fearful and hungry. Through their letters we learned that although they live in crowded quarters and share 14 beds, they are well cared for, happy, and loved by their house parents. The centre is their home. In addition to a roof over their heads and food in their bellies, they can go to school to earn an education that will help them build a more promising future.
Due to the crowded quarters and limited space it was a long term goal to build a new orphanage that would not only provide ample room to the 30 boys, but also allow safe housing for girls. Last October land was purchased in Mkoba, Gweru's biggest township, with a plan to first build a house for the girls, as there currently is no place else for the street girls to go.
In May we learned that our friends would be turned out onto the streets in August if the new orphanage is not finished by then. This news came as a shock to all connected to the orphanage. Although the children are well cared for, the existing building is not in the best condition and does not meet standards. Fortunately the centre was given a stay until August allowing the staff and their supporters time to build and furnish one of the new units for the 30 boys.
The Midlands Children's Hope Project, a Norwegian non-profit NGO, has already raised enough money to construct one unit, but lacks the funds needed to build the remaining units.
Prior to this news we already committed to making a donation to the new orphanage and have raised $3600 so far. We are committed to raising more to help our friends. Every child deserves to be safe, fed, and loved. Please help us give them hope for a brighter future. No one person can do everything, but everyone can do something. Together we can make a difference and change the world one child at a time.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Morris and the JMG Students at Morse High School
