My Landlord Doesn't Want to Do This

Donation protected
Over the past few years, I've occasionally shared requests from friends and family who needed help to get through a challenging time. Anyone who knows me knows that I hate asking for help with anything, and asking for money is especially hard for me. I never thought I'd be doing this, but I'm facing eviction and have tried every other option available to me.

Now, before everyone starts booing and hissing my landlord, let me say right up front that he doesn't want to do this. He has bent over backwards to work with me as I slipped behind in rent in drips and drops over the months. He hates himself for doing this, but his back is against a wall, too. As long as I was able to come up with the bulk of the rent each month, he was good with letting my growing arrearage slide until times got better.

Unfortunately, a combination of factors since January have meant that for the first time ever, I was unable to pay most of the rent for three months. Work from my three major clients suddenly evaporated into thin air just as unexpected expenses hit our family hard. The result is that I owe my landlord more than $5,000, and he feels like he has no other choice but to evict. Even with that, he is willing to stop the eviction - and eat any lawyer's fees - if I can come up with at least $3,000 by May 25.

I've managed to pick up new clients and revive old ones, which will allow me to keep the rent current going forward - if I can wipe out the bulk of the arrearage. If I can't do that, I face losing everything. Eviction will leave five of us homeless, including my two adult sons with  Aspergers' Syndrome. While I'm quite sure my daughter will let me bunk out on her couch temporarily, that's not an option for my two sons or my disabled roommate. There is literally nowhere for them to go. Those of you who know me well understand why it's so important for me to maintain this home in any way I possibly can.

Every little bit will help. Even if I can't come up with enough to stave off eviction, I can put any amount raised toward finding a place where my boys can be safe. Even a few dollars will help, and if you can't spare even that, I'll be grateful if you just help spread the word.

And since I hate asking something for nothing, I'm very willing to work for the money. At Cara's suggestion, I'm offering a few perks for donations - just get in touch with me to work out details if you're interested.

$1000 - Buy a Blogger!
For a $1,000 donation, I'll provide a year's hosting and ghost-written blog posts on the domain name of your choice. I'll work with you to set up a self-hosted WordPress blog for your pet subject or your business, and write three 500-750 word blog posts weekly for it. I can write knowledgeably about nearly any subject, from realty and finances to health, juicing, cooking or local events.

$500 - Blog for a Year
Want inbound links to your website or publicity for your business? I'll set up a Wordpress.com or Blogger blog focusing on the topics of your choice, and post to it three times weekly for a year. Each post will use keywords chosen to capture web traffic for your business, and link directly back to your website. Use it for link building, or let me ghostwrite your business blog.

$250 - The Lite Blog Package
Same as above, but with fewer words! I'll set up a blog for your business using the keywords of your choice, and post to it twice weekly, linking back to your website or any other URL you choose.

$100 - Your Own Blog
You provide the domain name and your own hosting. I'll set up your self-hosted WordPress blog with all the bells and whistles you need, then hand it over to you to write to your heart's content. I've been hacking and modifying WordPress themes since 1999, so you'll get a custom-designed blog on one of the easiest to use blogging platforms available.

$50 - Five Blog Posts or Articles
Need a break from writing or just want to add a little link love to your blog? I'll write and post five keyword optimized blog posts or articles about the subject of your choice, and link back to your website. Don't need link love? I'm flexible. Let's talk press release, sales letter or letters to the editor. With 15 years experience writing for the Web, I can write just about anything you need.

$25 - A Poem Just for You
For a $25 donation, I'll write a poem for you on the subject of your choice. Include your snail mail address, and I'll send you a hard copy in calligraphy or printed, on paper suitable for framing.

I appreciate you all more than you can know, and any help - even a dollar - will earn my undying gratitude and healing thoughts toward you and your loved ones during my daily meditation.

And don't hate on my landlord - send him love for being so gracious and human through this difficult time.
