Veterans: Non-Profit Race Team
Donation protected
For the last year I've had a dream of starting a non-profit organization to bring military veterans together in the form of an off-road racing team in order to:
1. Support the transition from military to civilian life
2. Build an maintain camaraderie for men and women sharing a common interest and journey
3. Teach business skills of operating and maintaining a complex organization (physical vehicle maintenance, marketing, finances, back-office ops, etc.)
4. Create emergency funds for veterans struggling with PTSD and other mental health issues
5. Provide a controlled, but fast-paced environment to keep veterans engaged in a fun activity
I was recently thrilled to find out that a Marine veteran I served with in 1st Battalion 7th Marine Regiment has already gotten involved with a group with the same vision: Desert Vets Racing (https://www.facebook.com/DesertVets1050/)
So far the funding for the team has been completely out-of-pocket by a few people involved and has not even been enough to formally register a non-profit (the money has gone toward vehicle maintenance and flying at-risk veterans in for various team events). Today I committed some personal funds to help pay for the non-profit setup and hope that you will provide additional funding to help build the team and support our endeavor.
If you work for a company that is willing to donate we can discuss adding logos to the race vehicles.
Please contact me for any questions/clarification on how the funds will be used. I'm happy to share as well as get advice from those who have built non-profits in the past.
Thank you,
Deven
