Unalakleet Boy Attends National Spelling Bee
Donation protected
My son, Brian Riley, was formally invited to participate in the National Spelling Bee from May 26th-May 31st in National Harbor, Maryland through the RSVBee program. Only 319 students are selected from about 519 applications throughout the United States.
Because he was not a state finalist, we are required to pay a participation fee of $1,500, plus travel and hotel expenses. We have paid the participation fee. Now we just need to fundraise for the remaining costs.
Coming from the small village of Unalakleet, he would represent our Inupiat village proudly. It isn't too often that a 5th grader from Northwest Alaska is given this opportunity to fly across the United States to partake in this incredible event.
We will be flying to D.C. on May 25 and returning June 1st. If I were given this opportunity as a kid, I would jump on it. Spelling is in our genes and I push my kids to do their best in everything they do.
Any donations would be greatly appreciated!
