RAISING HOPE – A Liver Transplant for Josh
My little brother is in a BATTLE for his life!!
In April of 2015, I received a devastating call informing me that my youngest brother, Josh Ochoa, was in the hospital with liver failure. After a few days they sent him home with a new diet and told him he would likely need a liver transplant at some point. Josh went on for the next several months trying to pick up where he left off but, obviously, life would not be the same! He ended up in the hospital again and recently (miraculously) was able to get an appointment at the University of Washington. UW is one of the oldest universities on the West Coast and features one of the most highly regarded medical schools in the world. UW doctors decided to start by retesting to see how Josh’s liver was doing. Josh received a call the next day informing him he needed a transplant immediately. Two days later (Oct. 16, 2015) he was back in the hospital and is now having kidney failure. As I write, he is being prepared for dialysis.
Josh is only 40 and we are not ready to lose him!! He is an involved member of his community & a caring, hardworking husband and father. He has a beautiful, strong, faithful wife and five amazing children who need their daddy!! Watching him go through this has been gut-wrenching for all of us.
My brother and his family have a difficult road ahead of them both physically and emotionally. We need your help to ease this burden. At this point we have no idea how long Josh will be in the hospital. He is the sole income provider in his home and for the foreseeable future unable to work. The family’s current outgoing expenses are $3,500 a month. This does not include any of the steadily rising medical expenses. In 2014, according to the Milliman Medical Index, the cost of a liver transplant in the United States averaged more than $730,000.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned through the many struggles of this life, it’s that I would not be who I am or where I am without the help of others and the support of community! With that in mind I call on you once again. Josh’s family is hurting and in need of help. Without you this is not possible. Please help us give Josh and his family another chance at life, love, and compassion. A chance for hope. Hope for a future!
Please spread the word to everyone you know & donate if you are able. We are truly grateful for your prayers & support-We can’t do this alone!!
