Art Supplies

My name is Cristina DeVries and I am a 6th Grade teacher at Green Valley Middle School in Fairfield, CA. 

Art is an important part of anyone's education. The experience of making decisions and choices in the course of creating art carries over into other parts of students' lives. If they are thinking, exploring, and experimenting to try new ideas, then problem-solving, critical thinking skills, and creativity has a chance to bloom. Our society needs this kind of forward thinking, inventive people who seek new ways to do and improve things.

I would like to raise money to provide many different art experiences for my students. We will spend the next quarter studying differing artists from different time periods with varying styles and techniques. We also will be exploring the cultures we study in Social Studies through their art. The students will create some Roman style mosaics during our unit on the Roman Empire. We hope to make some clay bas relief samples of Roman Art as well.
I plan to do units on Lichtenstein's Pop Art, Georgia O'Keefe's giant flowers, 3D sculptures with paper and clay, Calder mobiles, one and two point perspective drawing, Multi-media Art, Central American Molas, and Australian Aboriginal Dot Art vs  Seurat's Pointillism.

Part of our art exploration involves Art History study through pictures and style recreations. Our latest creations were based on Piet Mondrian's style with primary colors and line design. The students created everything from a Mondrian Tartus to a Mondrian portrait of Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump. A fascinating and worthwhile educational experience to see the depths of their creative thinking.

So to continue our art education through the end of the school year and beyond, we need supplies. This is a list of the materials I plan to spend the money on:

I cannot thank you enough for supporting Arts Education in my classroom. I truly believe it is an essential part of school and personal growth, and something I find great joy in teaching. Art gives you a window into yourself that can be invaluable.
I know our Art Show in June will be a great success with all of the wonderful creative opportunities created with these art supplies.
