On Sunday, November 15th, around 10am my family's life was turned upside down. My brother David went avocado picking with his family that morning, as he often does, only this time their adventure ended in tragedy. A branch broke, a hand slipped, or for whatever reason my brother fell 20 - 30 feet from the tree and hit the asphalt. His sweet wife and 2 young children ran to his side in complete devastation as David lay there bleeding and broken, struggling for his life. The ambulance was called and rushed him off to Queens Medical Center where he will spend the next few months in the ICU. Injuries sustained include a broken pelvis, 3 broken ribs, collapsed lung, broken wrist, lacerated liver, burst adrenal gland, broken skull and facial bones and most importantly, diffuse brain injury. As of today the doctors are still unable to tell us his chance of survival or the extent of the damage to his brain.
David is a strong, honorable, thoughtful, and humble man. He always lends a helping hand to those in need and goes out of his way to do service. He has served a mission for his church in Africa and helped bring comfort and sustainability to the people in his area. He is an Eagle Scout, a tax payer, and an environmentalist. Above all he is a loving husband to his lovely wife Jenne and an amazing father to his two kids Zalea (4 years old) and Jed ( 2 years old). They are expecting their third child in January which unfortunately David will most likely miss the birth. He was a self employed builder with no medical insurance, so months in the hospital followed by rehab will be financially devastating. After day 3 Jenne was approached with the current medical bill of over $50,000. After a couple months that bill could be in the millions. We're asking for donations to help ease the financial despair of David's recovery. We're hoping to raise $1,000,000 to help pay David's medical bills and bring "daddy" home. Any amount that you can spare would be helpful. Even $1 from you and everyone you share this story with will help tremendously. We're asking you help ease the suffering of this young family. A PayPal account has also been set up. If you have PayPal that would be the preferred method of payment to assure the greatest portion of the proceeds go towards David's medical expenses.
Thank you with all of our hearts!
His loving family,
Jenne, Zalea, Jed, Marci, Richard, Joshua, Emily, and Isaiah
