End the Occupation- Trip to Palestine
Donación protegida
I need to raise over £2000 to participate in this delegation. By sponsoring me, you would help me purchase my plane ticket and the other essential fees, which covers food, transportation, and accommodations. I am paying for the trip as much as I am able, but I need your donations to cover the rest.
" Power abdicates only under Counterpower" Martin Buber, 1949.
In his book Counterpower, Tim Gee (2011) identifies three types of Counterpower- Idea Counterpower, Economic Counterpower and Physical Counterpower. Gee describes Counterpower as the idea that movements for freedom, emancipation, liberation, human rights and democracy, share in common. He identifies that these movements share a similar path- Consciousness, Co-ordination, Confrontation, and Consolidation.
Idea Counterpower- "the practice of forming ideas that challenge the status quo and communicating them." Tim Gee, 2011. In his book, Gee sheds light on the words of Greenpeace co-founder Bob Hunter's concept of of creating a 'media mind-bomb'. "His vision was to produce media-friendly images, capable of not only drawing attention to certain issues and events, but of changing the consciousness of the world."
My campaign focuses on using Idea Counterpower as my effort to help End the illegal Occupation of Palestine.
Aims for this trip:
To use Idea Counterpower as a means to make a contribution to the movement supporting to End the illegal Occupation in Palestine.
To show solidarity in person.
To find out what Palestinians themselves think about what should be done about the conflict, possible solutions and what help they need from the International Community.
To build connections with and observe good practice of non violent resistance grassroots organisations working for human rights and to End the Occupation with a view of returning to volunteer, creating a database of organisations where others can volunteer in the future and set up donations.
Objectives:
Provide audio visual and written account of my journey and reality of life in Occupied Palestine.
Challenge the media portrayal of Palestinians relying on violent resistance by bringing attention to non violent resistance movement by Palestinians.
Carry out interviews with Palestinians to explore what solutions they want and what help they require from the international community to be most effective in supporting them to be autonomous, self determining, safe and free.
Document grassroots activism to have a better understanding of what work is taking place and where the focus should be.
To highlight the work done by grassroots Israeli/ Jewish activists who are against the status quo and their governments policy to advocate the human rights of the Palestinians and the End the Occupation.
Gain knowledge, experience and find out where my help is most useful as part of my personal and professional development as an activist.
Become a speaker and continue to
raise awareness as an activist when I return to London using my on the ground experience and improved knowledge around the issues of the occupation.
Document good work done for human rights and to end the occupation and where donations will be most useful.
Focus my future work based on Palestinian needs as determined by Palestinians.
