Walk a Mile in Her Shoes 2018
Tax deductible
Every spring, Beta Theta Pi hosts Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, an event designed to raise awareness towards domestic abuse.
It is an all too troubling reality that 1 in 3 women have experienced physical violence by an intimate partner at some point during their lifetime. Domestic abuse is also not bound by sexual orientation, 44% of lesbian women and 61% of bisexual women have experienced some form of domestic abuse during their lifetime as well.
Domestic abuse takes many forms, including physical, emotional, as well as psychological. The consequences of domestic abuse are equally devastating. Often times, domestic abuse can result in long term physical as well as mental health issues, harm to children, potential loss of employment, and homelessness.
SLU’s Beta Theta Pi chapter, is determined to take a firm stand against domestic abuse. We, with the help of the Young Professional Board of The Women's Safe House, hope to promote an atmosphere in which all students can feel comfortable coming together to stand in opposition to all forms of domestic abuse.
All donations will go to The Women's Safe House, an organization dedicated to providing safe shelter and transitional living services to battered women and their children.
