Washer and Dryer for Almira Academy

Almira PreK Academy, located on Cleveland's West Side, is an elementary school in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District.  Scholars at Almira experience a high transiency rate, receive 100% free breakfast and lunch, and often lack access to clean clothes. Our goal is to raise money to install a washer and dryer at our school to take away the stress of not having clean clothes to go to school.  Some scholars have increased absences due to the fear of being bullied by not having clean clothes. By having access to a washer and dryer we will be bringing a sense of community into our school by giving families access to a washer, dryer, laundry soap, and dryer sheets. Additionally, Almira scholars will feel confident, and ready to learn everyday. According to the attached article, when scholars had access to clean clothes "Overall, the attendance for elementary school students increased by 3 percent. More importantly, students with relatively high absentee levels saw double-digit increases in attendance. For example, elementary school students who missed at least five days the previous month saw their attendance improve by 15 percent. For middle school students, there were attendance increases nearing 25 percent. That's a stunning impact."
