WC for Icelandic horses Berlin 2019
Australia has never had a team in the World Championships for Icelandic Horses. The Icelandic Horse Association of Australia believe Berlin 2019 is our year!
Icelandic horses were the original horses of the Vikings and their bloodlines have remained pure for over 1000 years, making them one of the oldest and purest breeds in the world. They may be small horses but don't let their size fool you. Tough, spirited, hard working, friendly and willing, they are the complete package. Not only that but they are gaited, meaning they can walk, trot, canter/gallop like all other horses, but they also tolt and the 5 gaited horses can pace as well!
Just like the horses, our team is a small one, with at this stage, just two riders and their support crew. Just like the horses, don't let our size fool you; we are also tough, spirited and completely ready to represent Australia and the Association with pride in Berlin in 2019.
Currently, there are only 215 registered Icelandic horses in Australia, making them a very rare breed for our country. We currently don't have any experienced enough to compete internationally, so we will be borrowing European horses for the competition, spending a few months before Berlin training in Europe with them. International cooperation and friendship working at its best.
The International Icelandic Horse Community is offering nothing but support and encouragement to us and are thrilled at the prospect of Australia joining the other eighteen competing countries on the world stage.
Funds raised will be going towards training, entry into the Championships, flights and living expenses for the team, both humans and horses.
This is an amazing chance to create history and we would love you to be a part of it.
It sure is an exciting opportunity for Australia!
