Cemetery Preservation

Many of Washington County's historic cemeteries were once located in the midst of thriving communities, but have become neglected, overgrown, and forgotten over time.  Growth and development now place many of these cemeteries in danger of being destroyed and lost forever.  The Washington County Cemetery Preservation Group is partnering with many other service organization, church groups, and individuals to provide a long-term plan for maintenance and preservation of our county's historic cemeteries.

Our goals are to document each burial site and cemetery, to maintain this information for public use, and to file all documentation with city and county officials.  We will also organize the maintenance and preservation of our county cemeteries by working with local governments, landowners, and descendants of those buried in county cemeteries.  We will also educate about the Arkansas cemetery laws and preservation guidelines.
