MISSING MICKEY in our Continued Pursuit of Justice

Thank you so much for visiting the Go-Fund Me Page created for Mickey Wright, Sr. and our family. We’d like to tell you a little about Mickey’s story.
Who was Mickey Wright, Sr.?
My loving husband of 26 years, Mickey, was a Code Enforcement Officer in our hometown Memphis, TN. We were high school sweethearts and we have 6 beautiful children. Life was good. However, our lives were shattered on April 17, 2001. On this day, Mickey never came home.
How the tables turned.
Remembering the year 2001 is not a happy memory, yet a somber one, for most people. Not only is there a personal sadness, but we are also reminded of the rescue parties who were first responders in New York on September 11, 2001. Some never made it out, never to see their families again. 18 years later, they too are now fighting for health rights that should have been offered on a silver platter. Similarly, on April 17, 2001, Mickey was a first responder to a local business that ended tragically. The business owner murdered Mickey and then kidnapped his lifeless body. Once at his destination in another state, he mutilated and burned Mickey’s corpse. This fact still sends chills down our spines to this day.

After many years of suffering, our family rejoiced at the news of his murderer’s life sentence. Many years later in 2015, I sued the murderer for wrongful death and won a judgment against his real estate. That satisfaction lasted briefly, as the Shelby County Government (Mickey’s employer), is now holding our family responsible for the delinquent property taxes, penalties, interest, weed and attorney fees, totaling more than $125,000.00. We are appalled, hurt, and outraged that the City Mickey loved and died for, would treat his family in this manner.
How can you help?
You can help us by donating to Mickey’s fund. The purpose of the Go-Fund Me is to help our family resolve this dilemma by avoiding the impending tax sale. We are so grateful for all the years of support from family, friends and people we’ve never met yet you have felt our pain. Thank you for the encouragement, loving support and for your donation.
Good News.
We are working hard to ensure other families are protected in this regard. In February 2020, our TN State Representative, DeWayne Thompson, will present our case before Legislation, requesting a change in Tennessee Law. The “Mickey Wright Bill “ will protect and help other victims of crime and their families’ who may find themselves in the similar situations as it pertains to delinquent property taxes. Taxes that are incurred by the offender and required to be paid by the victims should be waived when the circumstances dictate.
* Special thank you to the amazing volunteers
