Welcome Home closure post GSA fire

Donation protected
All of you will be aware of the tragic fire at Glasgow School of Art and O2 ABC last week. It has been an awful blow to the whole of Glasgow for so many reasons and its full impact will be unknown for a while. As everyone else is we are hopeful and trying to remain positive in a very difficult time. Our thoughts are with GSA, ABC, CCA, our neighbours and all others who have been affected by the recent fire.

Unfortunately due to the proximity of the Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA) to the fire, the Mack building and the ABC we are currently within an area of the city cordoned off for safety. As part of the CCA, Welcome Home will remain closed until the building can be opened safely to the public.

We have been given a tentative date of 3rd July for reopening and will keep everyone updated once this is confirmed.

UPDATE - We remain within the exclusion zone and sadly this means that we will be closed for the foreseeable future.

We do not expect these fundraising efforts to cover this whole time but it would be amazing to be able to pay wages, insurance and website costs etc. while we look for other temporary work.

We hope that we are back in as soon as possible along with all the displaced residents and other businesses in Garnethill - this is so stressful for everyone!

Obviously we are one of many organisations and businesses affected by this closure and we are trying to limit its impact. I personally find it very difficult to ask for help and the decision to launch this campaign has not been an easy one. Welcome Home is not a funded organisation and never has been, as a small business owner I am personally liable for any losses. My primary concern at the moment is to continue to pay staff who also rely on Welcome Home for their livelihood - this is very difficult to do with no income. The amount requested will go towards this and to cover some of the other running costs incurred during this period of closure.

Welcome Home has been at the CCA since 2010 and supported over 100 designers by showcasing and selling their work there during this time. We work with many local designers and love discovering them, supporting their careers, offering advice and providing a home for their work. Once we get back into the building we are going to work as hard as we can to boost sales, events, new products and new designers. Welcome Home is also an important source of income for the many designers and makers whose work we sell and we want to limit the blow for them too!

It is very stressful to be shut at the moment and we are well aware that things are not going to be easy when we do get to open our doors again. We currently have no access to check everything is okay in the shop, to any of our stock, paperwork or records. We have no income but still have outgoings and as small as this loss of time and money may seem to some, it can be difficult to recover from as a small business.

I don't really know what else to say but I hope you can help, it would really mean a lot.
