Wes Mackey's Celebration of Life Tribute
Donation protected
Originally from rural South Carolina, Wes Mackey left the deep south at the urging of his father who wanted a better life for his son. A shy, young, black, man with a bad stutter, he forged ahead. Soon he found himself in Augusta, Georgia where he learned play guitar and eventually found himself working in bands that would back up touring artists like John Lee Hooker, Jimmy Reed and many many others.
It was a long and at times a very rough ride but over his 50 year career, he managed to visit the world, establish an amazingly diverse career and a unique sound that touched the hearts, souls and minds of many.
Wes was widely known for his endearing nature, his wide toothy smile, his sense of humour and strong work ethic.
Mackey never planned for a service, but at the requests of hundreds, it was decided to erect this page in hope of raising funds for a fitting Celebration of Life and Tribute, to cover some final expenses.
Thank you one and all.
