What About Sal?
Hey everyone and welcome to our fundraiser for the feature film What About Sal?
'What About Sal' is a heart warming tale about a man in his early thirties with Down Syndrome, who lives with his mother Sophie, a struggling artist with an aggressive form of lung cancer. With his mother only given weeks to live Sal sets off for the big smoke in search for his estranged father.
This is a 'feel good' Australian film which encapsulates adversity and what we believe is the first feature film to have cast a Lead Actor who lives with the condition every day. Enter the incredibly talented Gerard O'Dwyer - Best Actor recipient for Tropfest 2009. Gerard is taking on the powerful and emotionally driven role of Sal, written for the screen by John Jarratt (Wolf Creek) who is also Directing and Starring in the film as his father.
The movie will center around the relationship of Sal and his father, a forgotten aged rock singer turned alcoholic. As Sal explores the surrounds of Sydney he will meet interesting characters along the way which helps to enrich his journey and quest to reconcile a broken family. From the quaint suburban life that Sal leads to the vibrant in-your-face surreal world of Kings Cross and Darlinghurst, we will get to journey through the eyes of someone with a disability. Sal's independence will shine through, rise above adversity and warm your hearts with this adventure.
The film already has a super incredibly talented cast and crew that believe in Sal's adventure, but now we need you to help get it across the line.
To cover the last of the film's finances we need your support. Please donate what you can, share it amongst your friends and family. Let's get the story of Sal on the big screen together.
Thank you,
John Jarratt
