What We Carried Fundraiser

Thank you for watching my video about the What We Carried: Fragments and Memories from Iraq and Syria exhibition at the Ellis island Nation Immigration Museum in NYC (May 25 - September 2, 2019. I’m thrilled that these powerful stories will seen by so many visitors this summer. A million people will see the show!

Please support my collaborative project, and its objective to build bridges among cultures. I strongly believe that it can diminish hate and xenophobia by putting viewers in the shoes of families fleeing their homes because of war, not knowing if they will ever be able to return.

Your donation will go toward finishing the What We Carried: Fragments and Memories from Iraq and Syria book and continuing to work with our new neighbors. The What We Carried exhibition will travel around America and new work with refugees will continue after the Ellis Island show.

I’m proud that the project has received so much attention for refugee stories. Many articles about our work have been published. We have done several interviews, including for local and National NPR stations, as well as local and international TV interviews.

$25. I will send you announcements of all What We Carried events and articles.

$50. 6 What We Carried postcards with images from the book, and email announcements of all What We Carried events and above.

$100. A signed What We Carried: Fragments and Memories from Iraq and Syria book and above.

$500. A signed duplicate 19”x13” archival print from the book, and all of the above.

$1000. A portfolio of 6 signed duplicate 19”x13” archival prints from the book, and all of the above.

The What We Carried: Fragments and Memories from Iraq and Syria book will be 9” x 11” with 128 pages, laminated 1.2 mil scuff-resistant cover.

The cost to print and ship the books will be about $12,000. I will also provide free What We Carried books to participants.

All donations beyond our goal will go to support ongoing work documenting objects brought by refugees and survivors.
