Evie's Wheelchair Van Fund
Evie is almost 5 years old and she is our own personal sunshine. She loves to watch Little Einsteins, Sofia the First, and Doc McStuffins. Some of her favorite things to do are playing her piano and playing with her friends and family. She has a wicked sense of humor which is triggered by physical comedy and silly sounds. She loves being out and about at social events.
Evie is like many typical little girls her age; except, she has Rett Syndrome . A neurological disorder that has stolen her ability to speak, walk, and purposefully use her hands. She is also non-verbal, suffers from scoliosis, and seizures.
This year she underwent two surgical procedures within two months. In May, Evie had to have a g-tube placed in her tummy for all of her fluids because they were going into her lungs. Then in July she had bilateral hip surgery which required screws to be placed to keep her legs from dislocating.
Evie is a FIGHTER!
Evie received her raspberry pink wheelchair just before she turned three. At first, we didn't have too many problems getting her in and out of her carseat and placing her into her wheelchair. She only weighed 33 pounds at the time. I thought I could manage and I have for the most part.
Evie is now 40 pounds and growing. I have damaged my shoulder transitioning her in and out of the van we currently own. Due to Evie's scoliosis, we also need to consider the best posistioning for her body. Typical car seats just don't meet her needs. We know we need an alternative solution to these problems and the best answer is purchasing a wheelchair accessible van.
We need your help.
We would like to purchase a Toyota Sienna that has been converted with a manual rear entry ramp. We have located a company in Georgia, Purple Ribbon Mobility , that will help us locate and convert the van for us.
I can not express how much a wheelchair van would mean for our family.
