----It was a HUGE Success and a great way to kick-off this Scholarship Fundraiser!

Hello Willie Akins Fans, Joe Mancuso here... In honor of his memory and contribution to the St. Louis Jazz Scene, I am working with Webster University and many great sponsors to help provide Music Education through the newly founded Willie Akins Music Scholarship!Photo courtesy of Dennis Owsley
The Willie Akins Music Scholarship will help need based music students at Webster University with tuition costs. Often times students just fall a little short after their financial aid, loans and grants to cover the cost of tuition. This scholarship can make the difference between going to school or not for those students that need that little extra to pursue a music degree.
ALSO... it will help keep the memory of Willie Akins alive in our minds for many years to come.
Willie taught Jazz Improv at Webster University for several years right up until his passing in October of 2015... So many students, both in the classroom and in the clubs, owe a great debt to Willie for his tutelage.
This Scholarship and Annual Festival will help us remember and pay tribute to this St. Louis Legend for as long as we live.
I am looking for some help to fund the Endowment for this Scholarship!
We need to raise $25,000 to make this Scholarship active for music students...
Thanks to our Sponsors and the Musicians that participated in the 1st Annual Jazz Fesitval, we got a good head start, but we have a long way to go!
